I suspect that you may never run 5k in 30 minutes, but what makes you think that is important? It is a totally arbitrary distance/time combination which some people can achieve and most people cannot. This poll of C25K graduates shows what people achieved during the course of the training plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Don't compare yourself to anybody but your former, non running self and celebrate what you can do.

Have you read this FAQ Post about post C25k running? healthunlocked.com/couchto5... It might be helpful.

I wouldn't worry about 5k in 30 minutes, as already suggested, just celebrate what you CAN do .I've never run 5k in 30 minutes!

Am I bothered ? No, not a jot.

I much prefer to just enjoy my runs mixing them up as I go .

Some longer slower runs , some steady runs and some a bit quicker,

This is what's going to build your strength and stamina rather than just chasing some meaningless numbers .

Relax and enjoy 😁

Run how you like Haughton !

Until I started C25K just over two years ago I had absolutely no idea that 5km in 30 minutes was a thing. While I've done the occasional sub-30 5k, I don't remember numbers, I remember people and experiences. I have the privilege of running in glorious countryside and would much rather look at views than my watch.

I'm 71 and started C25k nearly 2 years ago....slow and steady is my mantra....I can't do speed and don't want to but I can do distance and, like Cmoi, I live a beautiful area and love being able to run through the countryside. Enjoy your runs.

I never ran sub 30min 5k, but did increase distance slowly to 10k. I Japanese Slow Jog and it takes me nearly two hours for the 10k, but they are an immensely enjoyable two hours!

Now I’m training very slowly back up to this distance after an injury. And I’m just enjoying the slowness of it all.

So the best thing for me was embracing slow runs and slow progress as a sustainable and injury safe activity.

You don’t need to go for 5 / 30 in first step. There is a global global rule, that doing your age in minutes for 10 km is a very strong performance. So this would mean 1h 4 min for you for 10 and therefore 32 min for 5 km. To achieve this, increase distance, not speed. And you can complement with weight training / resistance band - that helps, too.

If it’s any consolation I graduated over a year ago and it still takes me 45 minutes to run 5k. I was really disheartened for a while. I tried running shorter distances faster, running for 30 mins without measuring distance and various other things but I’ve now realised I should think about what I can do - run 5k without stopping - rather than thinking about what I can’t do.
