Hi all.. I've just run for 28 mins and only managed 3k. Thoughts please. Think people walk faster than me. At least I managed without stoping I know I shouldn't put myself down but can't imagine getting faster

Thoughts? Who cares about the speed! It's absolutely great that you're running 28 minutes non-stop. It's wow-tastic! Be proud of what you have achieved and carry on. Nice and easy wins the race, and the speed *will* come eventually, but for now just focus on what you're doing well.

you are still managing to run at 6.5km/hour - that's a great achievement. I have read a lot of comments on here and you can increase speed when you finish the program. I wouldn't worry about this now, just continue as you are - once we have all mastered being able to run the full 30 mins without keeling over, we can tweek speed then! Well done and keep it up - stop beating yourself up over speed. Slow and steady wins the race :-)

You're right. Problem is I think I had imagined I was going further on my run and then decided to use map my run and that gave me the news wasn't quite as fast as I thought. Wish I hadn't used it because I think it disheartened me as I was running which effected my run. Thank you for the advice e. Really appreciated

Exactly the same happened to me. I was fine until I realised just how far off 5k I was. Fortunately the good people on the forum pointed out that 7 weeks ago just running for 1 minute was an achievement and that kinda put things into perspective. I'm sure you and I and everyone else on here will eventually get to the magical 5k in 30 minutes, it will just take most of us longer than 9 weeks. Good luck with the rest of w8 x

I am still over 5minutes away from running 5k in 30 minutes, and I graduated several week s ago, but I don't care because ...... I CAN RUN 5k! So what if I do it in 35 minutes or 40 minutes. So what if it took me 7 months to graduate. None of that matters because I'm out there running. And that is what you need to remind yourself. You are amazing. You can run non stop for 28 minutes. You are out there, doing something positive! Speed is something to work towards later, and you will get faster

It really doesn't matter. The object of the programme is to get you running continuously for 30 minutes and you are nearly there. Many of us graduates cannot manage 5k in 30 minutes even now. Plenty of time to work on speed and distance after graduation. You're doing fab!

chappamadog please don't despair. From what I can gather since starting this programme everyone is so different. The main thing is that you are doing it and week by week improving. if anyone had told you 8 weeks ago that you would be able to run for 28 days I bet you wouldn't have thought it possible. I still remember the step up from week 1 to week 2 when it went from 1 min running to 1.5 minutes running! I couldn't believe how long 1.5 minutes felt! Keep with it, you are doing brilliantly!

I agree with the above, I'm still not doing 5k in 30mins and maybe I never will but the main thing is to just get out there, stick with it and enjoy it. My 'speed' has increased slightly each week at the Parkrun, I am sure you will get faster too. When I graduated I just decided to carry on running until I had run the 5k and tried not to worry too much about the time it took. You are doing fine and nearly there too, be proud! x

It just doesn't matter , unless you WANT to be a competitive racer. Being able to run for 30 mins or being able to run for 5k really is an achievement. Plus I bet you'll agree you are a lot fitter than when you started. Statistics ! Pish!!!

I graduated a couple of weeks ago and I am no faster than you. Enjoy the programme, enjoy being able run for that bit more time and look forward to graduation. You can worry about speed and distance after that. Good luck and best wishes.

Speed? Over rated. You ran for 28 minutes non stop. That's an achievement worth celebrating. Now sit down and pour yourself a drink, pat yourself on the back....

......and get back out there and do it again!!!

I think its about stamina, getting more comfortable with the running time and longer runs..the more you practice ie run the fitter and faster you will become..just saying.
