Hi all. How happy I am to be joining this forum. I am a complete beginner at the age of 58 and have just started week 5. So pleased with myself . Is a 5k walk on rest days ok? I have always walked and would miss these daily outdoor walks immensely. Thanks for any advice.

Welcome !And to get straight in and answer your question, Yes !

Walking is fine on your non run days .

Walking ,cycling or other non impact activity is good 👍

Also, have you read the program guide ?

healthunlocked.com/couchto5....

It's full of helpful information to steer you through the programme!

Enjoy the journey

If it’s something you’ve always done and you’re used to, I would keep it going. I usually find a good walk helps my legs if they’re a bit stiff after a run.

Edit to add well done on your progress so far and good luck for the end of the programme.

Welcome to the community and congratulations on your progress. Way to go!

I’ve been walking on rest days and as MissUnderstanding says I find it works out the kinks well. I also walk to work so fortunately that still fits with my running.

Thank you. I also walk my dogs on top of my very early 5k walk before work.

Welldone for starting! Yes, a walk is absolutely fine - it's good to get other forms of exercise in on your rest days!

Walking, cycling and swimming are great for rest days. Something that causes the same sort of impact on the legs (eg. skipping rope) would not be.

Oh yes walking is fine as already said above, snap with the age !! I have been running for over a year now and it’s the best thing I have ever done for my health and my mind keep on running !!
