Some time on the IC...a mystery.

Afternoon runners, quick update from me, I'm officially on the IC ๐Ÿฅบ!

There is a strange element of mystery however as I have no idea how I've got injured ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Was not due to running as I'd been working away and planned to run on my day off on Monday, however when I woke up I could hardly walk on my right foot, honestly feels like I've broken something but no bruising/swelling that I can see but the pain is pretty bad and I'm having to hobble around while at work (Self employed, time off not an option ๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿคฃ).

The pain seems worse in foot close to ankle and spreads forward/underneath if I put weight on front of foot or flex my toes. I'm getting around putting weight on heel which isn't hurting.

Anyone have any experience of mystery injury? Onto my third day of pain now.

Hope everyone is well ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Iโ€™m in the elite category when it comes to getting injured on non running days ๐Ÿคฃ but I tend to know what I did and it usually involves my denial of the fact Iโ€™m no longer a teenager!

Sounds like you need to get this one checked out by a professional. Hope it heals soon any you can get back out there.

If it's still painful after the bank holiday il have to get it checked out ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

This one's definitely one for the physio to look at.

It's definitely possible to overdo things in exercise and then something inconsequential later triggers the injury proper.

My untrained wild guess would be plantar fasciitis, but I've been very wrong about my own injuries in the past.

My Mrs suggested this too ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป certainly something I'd have to get checked if pain persists.

Another vote for getting it seen by a doctor. In the meantime I think the acronym is RICED - Rest, use an Ice pack, use Compression bandages, Elevate the leg and take painkillers (the D is drugs but I didn't want to give the wrong impression ;) )This seems to be the standard treatment for most running injuries.

As to what it is, maybe a ligament? Check your running shoes are supportive, when mine wore out the ligament in my ankle got strained causing 6 weeks on the IC. Once you're feeling better get a gait analysis if you haven't done so already.

Hope you feel better soon!

Yeah shoes etc all good, havnt ran at all in well over a week so havnt done myself a mischief while exercising and felt absolutely normal even on Sunday at work. Just woke up with it on the Monday morning ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ maybe 7 solid days at work in safety boots caught up with me? But I'd expect a dull pain, rather than what I'm experiencing, for that. Other foot also feels fine. Will rest it up as best I can over weekend, doctors if pain persists after that.

Good luck! Feet are very complicated so best to get it checked properly. It's annoying not to know the cause though.

The problem with your worn out shoes would probably not be the "lack" of support but that the support that remained was sending your foot going the wrong way, which put your ankle at the wrong angle. It's interesting to look at the wear pattern on old shoes. It can be almost as instructive as gait analysis as it shows the long term trend. It's one of the first things a podiatrist will do.

That's a really good point nowster as shoes that are 'supporting' the wrong places are probably far more likely to cause damage than going barefoot. If Jericho2332 's work boots aren't fitting properly maybe this could cause problems if worn continuously?

I agree with getting it checked out. I've had a stress fracture in my foot (extremely painful at first) a touch of plantar fasciitis (which went quickly on account of catching it fast) and a bruised foot (no obvious bruising but very painful for a couole of weeks). All came out of the blue with no obvious cause, all had me hobbling around, all took different amounts of recovery time and needed a different aporoach to mending! If you can see a physio or sports podiatrist privately, that will be your fastest route back to running. Good luck and speedy healing.

Sorry to hear you have a painful foot RR. I have had a mysterious foot problem too, it was 11 years ago. I wasnโ€™t even running that year. Did nothing to my foot but one evening I noticed it felt tender and I was limping a bit. Then woke up in early hours of the morning in pain, where I couldnโ€™t even cope with weight of my duvet on it. I couldnโ€™t even put my foot down at all as it was agony. I went to hospital that morning . Came back with crutches and because I lived in a flat near the top, I had to move back in with my parents for a month, as I couldnโ€™t do stairs. Saw another consultant and they guessed a possible rheumatoid pain from inflammation. It took me a while to get back to walking again and was exhausted. But the whole thing was so bizarre and literally came out of nowhere. I havenโ€™t read the other comments yet, but I would go get it looked out. As you never know, it may not be running related. Good luck and hope you feel better soon ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป

Thank you! It is very strange how these things just happen ๐Ÿค”

The good news is that it feels loads better today and am able to walk almost normally again, it's still a little painful but nowhere near levels of last few days. I must have banged it and not realised or something ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿคฃ still going to rest it for few more days to be safe but I'm amazed in the difference a good night's sleep has made ๐Ÿ˜.

Sounds like you may need a professional, my unexpected injury the day after exercise was later diagnosed as gout! I hope you get a better result
