Day 1 Phew 😥

After weeks of contemplation, deviation and procrastination Ive just completed Day One of 5k run this morning. Yea! Drumroll! I won’t lie, it was a challenging . It was hard. My chest hurt. My knees complained. I hate running but I learned my harmonies for my choir rehearsal and I have to admit I feel so good now I’ve done it. I’ve already set my reminder for the next run. ..

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5....

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Well done - the first is always the toughest, it's hard to get out of the door. But you've done it. Read the info linked to above, it should help, but just to emphasise the point to slow down - you're out for a jog, not a run. My W1 and W2 were tough till I realised it was not only ok but necessary to go at a slow jog, and it does get easier with time. Good luck!

Will do. Thanks!

The first step is always the hardest.

When the BBC/NHS Couch to 5K app was first launched I installed it on my phone. A few years later I installed it on my new phone. It was only when we went into the first lockdown that I actually got the guts to use it for the first time.

"My chest hurt."

Ooooo, I don't like the sound of that!

Have a look at this and see how easy it for them to chat ... you're aiming for this level of ease and comfort.

Well done… that’s the toughest run of the plan ticked off! Keep the pace down and the determination up and you’ll go from flirting with running to falling in love with it before you even notice it happening.

Well done for learning your choir harmonies! And congratulations on your first run. I wonder which songs you were listening to .... but were you able to actually sing the part as you ran? Or just internally memorise the harmonies. PS My mother used to sing whilst she worked. I guess that makes the burden lighter haha. Good luck on your mission.

Well done. That's the hardest one done. I thought I hated running too! I also learn songs while running. You might as well. Sometimes it's the only time I get peace.

I’m actually looking forward to the next run. A huge surprise. Baby steps. Music certainly helps. Thanks for your encouragement.
