Welcome to the forum and well done on your intention of keeping fit for retirement.

Yes, Vikings can run too!

This very simple little training plan changes lives.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5....

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

And what are your walking skills like currently?

Intend to do some at weekends, spending long hours sitting in longboats is having a bad effect on my posture! :-)

Hmmm ... if walking is not something you do in the normal course of your day, then I'd be hesitant about diving off your longboat into C25K as a normal walk/jog program.

Instead, i'd suggest using the C25K as purely walking program, alternating between gentle and brisk walking. Once you can walk briskly for 30 minutes, THEN you can restart but doing C25K as brisk walk/jog.

How does that sound?

Think I’m in the boat behind! You will love this Tony. It’s made a massive difference to my looting and pillaging! Seriously follow all the advice and chug along slow and you will succeed. Some good music and good trainers and you’ll be kicking!

As has already been stated. Give yourself a month or so of extending distances walking at increasing pace as your ability increases. When you then start c25k, those walks will prove invaluable. If at all possible recruit someone to join you on the programme. A touch of encouragement from each other goes a looonnnggg way. I entered the c25k programme in my 60's. I am running my 3rd c25k group in my pennine village. Thus far all participants have successfully completed the programme. I too hit he scales the north side of 16 stones. In exactly one weeks time I start the my first of three half marathons, now weighing under 13 1/2 stones. You can do this.
