A bit scary

I’ve never posted anything before except the occasional FB so please be kind. I’m trying to be the best example to my 15yr old who suffers from PTSD. Encouraging her that PE can have a huge effect on your mental health and setting doable goals is one way to get you off the couch and out the house. Im now on week three-all be it in a gym and on the treadmill. We’re slowing building our confidence and setting mini goals each week. I send you all love and light and you never know I might post something again. Love and respect👊

I remember that 15-year old me was totally put off PE by school. Best of luck for both of you!

Hello and welcome. My youngest found secondary school very tough. Every day when he arrived home from school I'd say, 'I really fancy a walk, wanna come?' We'd just walk and walk over the fields and it seemed to help. Fresh air and a common purpose are a great de-stresser.He's still a great walker but when I tried to get him to do C25K with me it never really clicked with him. I haven't given up hope.

Good luck to you and your daughter, today's teenagers have had such a difficult few years.

Welcome! Very good reason to do this… and great to hear you are doing this together with your daughter. The treadmill is a very good option for doing this with someone else as you can run at different paces while still testing each other’s pace is slow enough to chat! Great to read that you are both building confidence.

Please post again as often as you can/want… we love reading about the journeys of new runners, and they are so very inspiring for those starting after you.

Happy running.

Great to hear that you are giving this a go.I have a 16 year old, who is into sport but not running. The 14 year old is more interested in computers. I do not think that I could persuade either of them to take up running!

I am sorry to hear about your daughter but this may be a great opportunity. I hope it goes well for you and best of luck.

Where to start. Well done on all those counts! I too didn't particularly 'do posting' before embarking on the C2k journey or joining this forum, but it's so welcoming and inspiring it's easy to join in.

The running is so good for mental health, just as much if not more so than physical health, I can't describe how much better I feel since starting out. You're brilliant for getting started, and for bringing your daughter on this journey with you, I hope you both really feel welcome and start reaping the benefits of running (and this forum). I for one will look forward to hearing about your progress!

I started C25K with my daughter when she was living with me during Covid. She has now moved away but we still meet up occasionally and talk and talk while we run very slowly - on treadmills and outside. I think what you are doing sounds lovely - stick wth it and enjoy yourselves.
