Consolidation run 3

Still keeping to the routine and aiming to get comfortable with 30 minutes. Chose a route that according to Run Keeper it had the largest elevation climb this month 220 meters. I have no clue what that means only it was hard work and I did have two walking intervals of about 90 seconds. But I’ve decided to stick to this route it’s only 3.36 km. but it will certainly improve my stamina. What does the forum think to my choice? Is it a good idea, madness, or ok. Thanks

Hills are your friends. If you can manage them they will improve your stamina. My usual routes all involve hills but some time ago I set out to run a dead flat 10k to set a baseline time...........I got so bored, I gave up at 7k.

Each hill summited is a little victory and lifts the spirits.

Have fun.

I think it's a good plan 👍If you can befriend hills at this stage it will pay dividends later in your running journey 🙂

I had the same question when I started and was reassured and encouraged by the great and wise people here. I graduated from C25K on the same up-and-down route I started on. I’m still gasping for breath uphill, but when I joined my sister-in-law for a 5k in the park (all flat) it felt like a piece of cake! Therefore, I can swear by it, hills are our (uncomfortable) friends and it does pay dividends later on!

Hills are great, but my mind is boggling at your stats!

Elevation gain is the total amount of ascent you do during a run.

So if you mean that there's 220m elevation gain in your 3.36km run, that's seriously steep. Doing that in 30 minutes immediately after graduating C25K would be remarkable - I recently completed a trail marathon, and I'd be well pleased with that sort of pace.

If you mean that the highest point of your run is 220m, that's completely different, and the elevation gain will depend on the height of your starting point.

As I said no idea what it means😂😂 Runkeeper sent an email saying congratulations you’ve reached largest elevation climb. It sounded incredible and although it was tough I didn’t need ropes and spikes. I will ignore the apps for know and just keep running

Maybe it's cumulative over the month so far then? Whatever, that's definitely the right attitude, ignore the stats and run! 😀
