First post.. I started week seven this week.. managed the first run but really struggled with the second so I dropped down to run 1 week 6 and really struggled with it!! Safe to say I'm a little disappointed. Only a few years ago I was running 5ks three times a week with a local club, I guess this happens when you get to 50!!! Keep going👍

Can't put my finger on it really! I've been drinking plenty of water, stretching before and after.
Maybe because you have been a runner before, your expectations are high. However you also have the experience to know that stamina takes time to build. Slow down to a sustainable pace and be kind to yourself. Once you have the miles under your belt, you will be able to start flexing your running muscles again. 50 pah!
I would say chalk it up to a bad day and don’t worry! We all have ‘em. 🙄 Sometimes you can figure it out - drink more water, eat more/less before running, hard day before, or whatever. Sometimes you come down with a cold/hay fever/tummy upset the next day. And sometimes it’s just a “blah” day! Call it a practice run and have a day’s rest. And off you go again. Fingers crossed you’ll either figure it out or it was nothing. Either way, onwards!! 😄
Everything going on in our lives can impact on our performance as a runner. Restedness, hydration and nutrition are at the top of my list of variables that need to be optimised to enable enjoyable running.
It’s not as easy a week as it appears… the runs are staying the same, but the weekly load is still increasing… what you are feeling here is by no means uncommon. Slow it down, especially in the first half, and go again!
Soon you could be running 3 10ks a week… age is only a number, there’s maybe some lost pace, but you can still run further and be fitter than in your previous running adventures… of of course you can just have fun!
