An unusual protest...

This is what I saw on my run yesterday - a "poo" protest! They are protesting about untreated sewage being pumped straight into the river. They are going to float a whole flotilla of poo upriver....@Katnap

Here's another one...

Fibreglass poo

They'll need a lot of big doggie poop bags to clear up afterwards 🤣

Love the idea of a flotilla of poo! I guess there will be a team of people to collect them further down stream so they don't add to the poo going out to sea!

They were going with them in inflatable canoes and such, one chap even came all the way from Wales to swim with them

Swimming in the Cam? Brave! I fell in whilst punting my parents just before finals (it was a cartoonish fall into the water still clutching the pole), got a mouthful of river, and spent a long evening involuntarily purging my GI tract after they'd gone back home.

Yes, I thought the same, especially as that's what this protest is all about...A lot of people swim in the Cam, there are protests about that too, the Universities want it stopped, say they ruin the banks...

My husband fell in holding the pole too, got it caught in an overhanging tree. He held on for ages but then got catapulted!! It was hilarious!

Mine was negotiating a log jam of punts at the Garret Hostel Bridge. We got bumped, I lost balance, clung on to the pole and described an arc as I descended into the murky waters. I'm told one of the college fellows was in another punt and was laughing like a drain at the sight.

The fibreglass one looks like it's on Chesterton Road.

Yes, they were unloading them there as I started my run, then when I came back they were still getting ready to float them on the other side of the river, by the lock. I think they're papier mache rather than fibreglass.

Yup there’s a petition out to make reducing sewage pollution a legal requirement: I’m actually amazed it isn’t already. For some companies it’s cheaper to pay the fines than improving their treatment plants.
