I started c25k I think about 2013 and ran for approximately 3 years after but had to stop owing to arthritis in my hip.
I had a hip replacement in November 2020 and, whilst I’ve always been active, I’ve really lost my exercise mojo. I belong to a gym but haven’t been for a while owing to COVID but also because I hate the gym!
What I ‘liked’ about running (and I use the term ‘liked’ loosely) was being out in the big outdoors and just being able to put my trainers on and go. I’d like to start again but don’t want to do anything to jeapordize my hip.
It would be good to hear if anyone has run in a similar situation.
Thanks.

We have had people do C25K after hip replacement but you really need to check with those who know your medical history, to make sure that it is appropriate for you.
My other half did the programme after hip replacement. He was very fit beforehand and never stopped with the stretching and building up the gentle exercise afterwards until he could get back to cycling and running. Even so, he took the C25 k really slowly, repeating all the weeks, and staying in the intervals for a while as the longer runs were too much initially. But he can run 5 k much better than me now, 18 months from the op. I think it’s a question of listening to what your own body tells you and being very very careful. And taking advice as IannodaTruffe says of course.
I realize this was written 2 years ago but I just joined and I’m curious as to whether you started running or not? I am 48 and had a hip replacement when I was 36. I have pain in that hip, but with peri menopause, I’ve put on 20 lbs and want to start running again to lose it. I have always been active and I work out 3 days a week but I NEED to run to really get my weight loss down. I know that when I try to run, my hip feels pain, but I think I’m going to just push through it, at least 15 min/day. Did you have pain too? I don’t think I’ll ever run long distance like I did prior to my surgery but I want to at least be able to run 2-5kms. How did you do it?
I didn’t take up running again because I was very nervous about trying. My neighbour, who is a physio and diagnosed my arthritis, said I could give it a go but I really don’t want to do anything that may cause harm to my new (two and a bit years old now!) hip.
Having said that, someone else replied to me a year ago with a post I have only seen today, with a link to a discussion about running post hip op and those contributing to the discussion were very positive about taking up running again.
The only thing I would say to you is if you are currently feeling pain in your replaced hip, I would be very wary about putting pressure on it but I’m no expert! I’d be more inclined to take up cycling if it was comfortable to do so. You could maybe get your hip checked out first by a physio?
I’m overweight too and I never lost weight through running but then I continued to eat unhealthily sometimes 🤦♀️.
