Morning . Went out about 7.00 am this morning and thought it was cool , after the first mile or so I felt strong in the legs and breathing was ok but I felt so very hot. I get hot whilst running anyway but today I was sweating buckets . I can't think of any ways to keep myself cool whilst running . I tie my hair up, wear a light top.. I do wear running tights and not shorts ... Nobody needs to be subjected to my legs first thing in the morning !n Happy running.
Hot, Hot ,Hot: Morning . Went out about 7.00 am... - Couch to 5K
Hot, Hot ,Hot
Well done.
Sweating is the body's way of keeping us cool. Making sure your hydration is adequate (a minimum of 2.5 litres per day) will make sure you don't run out of sweat.
I'm also a big sweat generator when I do exercise. You want a top in a wicking type "technical fabric" that makes contact with the skin rather than anything cotton based or loose.
I doubt the tights are the problem.
What gets you in this situation is not the heat itself, but the humidity. Humidity prevents the sweat from evaporating, reducing its cooling effect. Humidity has a tendency to peak in the morning, as the dew is being driven off by the sunshine.
I wouldn’t worry about people seeing your legs! Wear what’s comfortable though. Mind you I’m at the stage of growing out dyed hair and have had it chopped off short (now mostly grey) so I think I’ve reached the f**k it stage of my life and don’t care what people think! 😂
Normally I don not mind what people think but my legs rarely see the light of day . I think the problem maybe me knowing they are on show not people looking at them. I bought a skort a couple of weeks ago and did go out in that ! I have know people for 20 odd years and they probably have never seen my legs!
Legs are not my problem mine is my midriff no matter what I put on I still look like big daddy from the neck down lol showing my age now dont know if anyone remembers him x
Real name Shirley Crabtree. Often fought a guy nicknamed Giant Haystacks.
My grandma loved the wrestling at 4pm on Saturday afternoons on ITV.
Wow someone as old as me lol thats right I loved watching Saturday afternoon with my dad x
When my husband was in the army Big Daddy was his drill seargent. Apparently if you did not get up you got tipped out of bed.
Maybe get one of those little spritzer bottles from boots/chemist, fill with water and spritz yourself as needed. Boots also sell cooling sprays which might help, before and after a run! Good luck!
Great idea , I do actually have some that I use when I go to hot countries ... I hate the heat but love exploring different countries. Thank you
I just can’t run in any level of heat.. so my only tip is to avoid it.. It’s quite cool here today, but after my short treadmill run this morning I had sweat trickling down my face. I went out into the garden and stood in pouring rain to cool down..🤣
Get them legs out mrs run 😂
I know it might not be the right thing but it helped me. Few weeks ago was well too hot but stupidly I went out. I have ice packs, put in fridge so was cool not frozen. Kept them in my Bumbag thingy.
When i got too hot i put one in each of my shorts' pockets. Done the trick.
I felt the same as you about my legs so I struggled for months wearing running leggings but something snapped this summer and I bought running shorts (like cycling shorts) and they have made all the difference. I am a trouser/jeans wearer, rarely if ever wear dresses etc but necessity made me try shorts and I wish I’d bought them sooner. If it’s the fact that you have pale legs (I do) -try using a gradual tan moisturiser like Garnier/Dove - they stop you from feeling like your legs can be seen from space 😂😂😂
I'm somewhat the same, as I have ridiculously overdeveloped calf muscles from years of enthusiastic hiking, though they have shrunk a little after all those lockdowns. Also I like to wear clothes made to the same pattern when I can so I always know which pocket my house key is in etc so I wear some of my hiking clothes when running. I'm always checking the weather forecast sometimes days before a run to try and time it so I will be running in cool dry weather.
I have started looking at Ron Hill gear on Amazon so I'm probably going to end up with some shorts. It will be an advantage to have all that extra skin with air blowing over it to keep cool, though I mainly sweat up top - the back of my shirt is often soaked after a run.
I think progressing to shorts will be a rite of passage on my journey to be a runner.
I have some Ron Hill tops for hiking and I find them really hot . I found a couple of weeks ago some excellent running tops in Decathlon, they are far cooler than any walking tops I have Rab, Ron Hill and such. I keep going back to decathlon to get more but they only have the very small sizes.. I live n hope as I am doing Lady Anne's Way next month and need more. Thinking about rite of passage , I think you are right... That step that says , yes I am a real runner in the making !
