My 3rd run of the week all under my own steam, rain didn’t stop me actually found it quite refreshing although if it was heavy I would’ve need a waterproof another thing to add to the running shopping list

Like many things it comes down to personal preference.

There is a tendency for waterproof running jackets to get you soaked with sweat from inside.

I much prefer clean refreshing rain.

A waterproof jacket is definitely not an essential for a runner, but can help to keep cold winds off.

Thanks that seems to be the general opinion!

Running in light rain is a joy, I find, especially in the warmer weather. Once you’re wet, you’re wet.

I’m a specs wearer so use a peaked cap to keep the rain off my specs, otherwise I tend to look more at the temperature and wind and dress accordingly, e,g layers , if it’s chilly i’ll go for long sleeves, I occasionally use a ‘showerproof’ jacket, if it’s heavy rain, but I get very hot, so the jacket usually comes off 😂

The one time I actually kept a ‘showerproof’ jacket on for the whole of my run it was minus 3 , snowing, with additional wind chill of another minus 4 degrees.....🥶.....it was one of the most enjoyable runs I’ve ever done.....

That sounds sensible! I won’t rush in to getting one as you say I usually get quite warm running !

Waterproof jackets provide a "boil in the bag" experience in warmer weather. I have one but have never used it.

Looking at the weather radar for gaps in the rain is helpful, for example: netweather.tv/live-weather/...

I went out once in the rain and got absolutely soaked right down to my undergarments!!! Rain is wet & you just get wetter! You do have to get changed as soon as you get in, otherwise you feel cold quicker. 😀🌧

Great you're on a roll! I've got a jacket that's windproof on the body bit only and has warm sleeves that's seen me through the colder days. Not sure what I'll do in warmer weather. Maybe a waterproof only really necessary if its windy?
