Tibial plateau fracture

I am currently nursing a tibial plateau fracture. I am thinking my running days are over so looking for any inspiration that in time I may be able to return to running or at the very least brisk walking 😥

Why would they be over? Is that what the medics have told you?

Hi John not in so many words. It’s more my way I feel at the moment. I know it’s early days. I must be patient!

Hi Ruby,Sorry to hear about your problems. Looked it up on the Letsrun site, quite a bit of discussion and I guess it depends on a number of factors but I thought one comment (and it wasn't alone) might cheer you - but as I say every case is different - but never underestimate the power of the mind! Here's the comment:

"I'm 4 years out from a tibial plateau fracture (bunch of screws, plates, bone graft). I was told that I couldn't run again. Three months non-weightbearing and three months more to walk without a limp. By the end of the first year, I could walk about a mile. I then had the plates and screws removed which really improved my range of motion. I had to wait another 6 months for the bone to reach full strength again. Then I started jogging slowly. I was jogging about a mile by the end of year 2. Now, I'm up to running about 4 miles and I'm about a minute per mile slower than I used to be. So super happy about that. My recovery may have been slower because I had chemo and was recovering from that just before the fracture.

You never know what's possible."

Hope that helps.

all the best - don't forget the future is waiting to be made!
