W6/R1 Completed... ⚠️ warning?

Hello everyone! I just completed W6/R1 and I wanted to share my thoughts on this.

I had read several post regarding this morning (back to the intervals/splits), and I also received comments on my post of my completed 20 minutes nonstop run for Week 5. I was warned not to get ahead of myself on the big celebratory moment that I was having. Others have suggested that people are caught off guard with the following intervals for Week 6.

I will have to say that though they were challenging I still felt, personally, that the straight nonstop 20 minutes was much more challenging. We all are faced with different obstacles, but, for me, I felt that completing that 20 minutes nonstop run that I could accomplish anything and get through the next additional 10 minutes total time that was to come ....maybe that’s just optimism. Just would be nice to remain optimistic than a discouraged fearful week to come I guess.

Best wishes to all of you out there!❤️

The 20 minute run is the Big Bad Wolf of the Forum :) Really intimidates us all, but by the time we reach it our "Running House" is FAR more bricks than straw and we get such a rush out of achieving the goal :)

I haven't read the posts you refer to, but want to say "well done" for your progress.

And as for the next stage - my personal experience was one of "why in heck is there a walk break again?" It felt very frustrating to have to break up my run after slaying the week five dragon, I have no understanding why we do, but like the rest of the programme I figured it was needed for some reason :)

Not long now until you graduate, vwell done and wishing you many happy miles in your future 👍🏻

Thank you so much for your encouraging words. Yes, I felt exactly the same way..”slaying the dragon 5”! Haha well put! Yes, I did also question why are we having breaks after I passed this point that I worked so hard for. I, too, viewed it as... there’s got to be a reason for this. Someone explained that quest as gentle builds for these enduring weeks. I liked that and good explanation as to why the breaks again.

I look forward to completion and will keep my updates coming in. 😀

Totally agree! Got to keep the optimism going.

People obviously mean well but it def should not fall into scaring people on what is to come.

Well done on W6R1! Keep going! 😀

Well done, both for last week and your continued progress. I also didn't find W6R1 any problem, and I think having an optimistic outlook helps achieve your runs. I guess for some people though the 'I've conquered it' mindset takes over and they go too fast on W6R1&2 thinking it's 'only' short intervals. It sounds as though you didn't fall into that trap though, and so onwards and upwards! Have fun...

Thank you. Yes, I did realize that was probably what happened to some is viewing it as short intervals and pushing faster than previous runs would possibly set you up for a big downfall. I felt it was a mindset of “ I can do this!” And “look what you just conquered, but slow and steady as previously”. 😌

Well done.

Perhaps you need to adjust your approach. This post may help healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

It is a training plan......... nothing to be fearful about.

Do your best.

Thank you. I am certainly positive and that took me a long way with that run that I just completed. Didn’t want to get into that fear set mode of some of these warnings that were being passed along my way from others. ☺️

Probably not intended to be fearful or cautionary. I always read them as a bit of good advice, and for me it was helpful. I did find it hard to do the intervals again, still find it hard now (3 years later) if I have to stop for traffic, it's not so much the stopping, it's the re starting 😂

I really enjoyed going back to run/walk intervals in week 6 - can’t imagine why it would catch you off guard😂

Haha, my thoughts exactly. Nice to get breathers here and there 😂

I too wrote an 'OMG I cant believe I did that and 6.1 looks easier' post when I completed week 5 and was greeted with much head shaking and teeth sucking, with dire warnings of the challenge ahead. It scared me a bit too but at least meant I was prepared and the run went well. As for the walking portions, many training plans for longer distances involve 'jeffing' (google it). It can improve speed and stamina. Week 7 was my favourite
