Well just about managed the run today but I really am soooooo slow. Keep getting overtaken by other runners - just running around the town where I live. Can’t believe made it to week 7😮😮😮 😁😁😁😁
Wk7 run 1 will I ever get faster?: Well just... - Couch to 5K
Wk7 run 1 will I ever get faster?
Hello Mrswoolley , you very probably will get faster. However, now isn't the time to be worrying about that. 🙂 I know that's easier said than done, but really, the aim right now is to complete the C25K programme, consolidate afterwards, and then maybe think about getting faster.
Fwiw, while I'm definitely not averse to a PB, it turned out that I'm more interested in distance, elevation, seeing new places and just having fun when running, than speed per se.
Well done.
Development of your aerobic base comes from running at an easy conversational pace, not by running faster.
You are doing great.
Well done for sticking it out! I'm on week 6 atm and am still very slow. Try to ignore the other runners... You don't know how long they have been running for etc. Focus on how well you are doing and that you are still running and challange yourself. I think you're great! Xx
I felt exactly the same, as I shuffled along watching gazelle like creatures fly past me. But just listen to what the others are saying and ignore what other runners are doing. Concentrate on just completing each run and embrace the achievement. What you are doing in amazing. Everything else can wait 👍
You are doing exactly the right thing! I decided to extend distance, slowly, after 5k. Picking up pace followed much later; I have managed 28:17 for 5k, but that was 18 months on from C25k. You will learn about intervals, fartleks and other speed increasing methods, but all in good time. For now, you are doing brilliantly. Your body needs to adjust to running. Nobody ever got injured by running too slowly!👏👏👏👏👏
I am just ahead of you in runs and feel the same way. Sometime I am so slow, I think I am running on the spot! But I somehow get to the next village so I cant be...just dont worry and be proud that you have got this far and can do it. The Japanese slow running technique I read about here is brilliant, and the idea of having a conversation that they mention is a good one...not that I have anyone to talk to! Well done
Thank you for the encouraging reply! Yes have found the Japanese slow running so helpful - don’t think I would have got so far without trying that technique. Also running on my own but find that it’s nice to ah e time to focus on just the running when life is so busy at the moment. Well done on your achievements so far x
You're now 19 runs into your running journey - well done. You're on the home straight of C25K and can look forward to graduation and then consolidation.
But your speed... why are you concerned about it? I've got a 1000 runs and 4500 miles under my belt in 6 years ... I ran 20:31 for 5k in 2017 and hoping to go sub-20 one day and also 3h:30 for a marathon.
BUT I'm currently being overtaken by some of the slowest joggers on Liverpool's prom ... do I care? NO. I'm doing MY thing - not theirs.
Don't let what others are doing concern you. Focus on YOU and only YOU.
Crack on
😎
