Failed Wk7 Run 1
Ooo you used the F word! we don’t like to say failed here, treat it as a practise run and set off slower next time. It was on week 7 I had an imaginary green ribbon to pull myself along the pavement with, as i got near the end of the time the ribbon tuned gold.... Wow i’d forgotten that, makes me sound rather unhinged doesn’t it? but i pulled myself along to the end of the programme when after consolidation i could go for as long as i wanted
Good luck next time we are all cheering you on
Please don't use the F word on this forum.
Assuming you are well, then being out of breath is a sure sign that you are going too fast. You have already done a 25 minute run, so you know it is well within your abilities.
Everything going on in our lives can impact on our performance as a runner. Restedness, hydration and nutrition are at the top of my list of variables that need to be optimised to enable enjoyable running.
This post expands on the theme. healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
Rest up, prepare well and start your next run nice and slow. You will be fine.
Well done adding another 12 and half minutes to your stamina tally!! You went too fast if you were out of breath.. maybe take another look at the japanese running video, I watched it again this morning, week 7 was a bit of a struggle for me too, just go slower in a couple of days and go easy on yourself
It was just a practice run !So now you know you need to be slower if you were out of breath and nail it next time 👍
At least you tried. And you can always try again. I had a blip and the kind words of support and encouragement from the people on this forum made me have a couple of days off to rest and then back to it and it worked. You can do it!
" ... completely out of breath ..." you say?
You know what I'm going to say don't you?
Gahhh week 7... I struggled too. I think I got too over excited and thought I had everything nailed...kept going off too fast and quickly became exhausted, so the rest of the run felt like a chore. I learned the hard way and it took most of that week for me to figure out what I was doing wrong. I re watched the slow jog videos and reset my mind to go slow. Seemed to work for me.
Don’t beat yourself up about it, you’ve put extra distance on your legs which will help you next time.
Take the rest day though! 😎
If I went any slower I wouldn’t be moving at all. Personally I felt there was a lot of traffic in the park today plus my breathing & it annoyed me I usually run early door not in the middle of a Sunday afternoon.
So you were probably put off a little by the volume of traffic in the park, you got annoyed at your breathing and just had a rubbish run. Mate, we’ve all had those! Sometimes something just puts you off and no matter how much you want or need a good run it just doesn’t happen.... and it’s ok, frustrating but ok.
You’re in week 7 that’s what I classed as a ‘work horse’ week. There’s no glory in that week no special runs that make you feel particularly amazing and you know you’ve got 3 weeks to get through For me I just had to get my head down dig deep and get the runs done. Each one of them I had issues with, and sometimes it was only my sheer stubbornness that got me through.... and a bit of choice language.
Take a rest day, know that you can physically complete the run, clear your mind before the next one and I bet you a lipstick kiss that you’ll do it!
You mentioned that you don`t usually run in the afternoon? Heat can have a big impact on your running too. The hotter it is the harder your body is working and it can take time to acclimatize to running in warmer weather. Maybe that was an additional factor.
