I completed C25K last summer without a single pain and did many happy consolidation runs, but had back trouble in late October and I haven’t run since October. My physio doesn’t think the back pain was connected to running and encouraged me to start again when I felt ready.
She felt, as I do, that the safest thing to do was to start all over again, so that’s what I’m doing. I have been doing a lot of walking and found Week 1 quite easy, but I’m determined to stick to the plan as I am in no hurry. I have never felt the need to compete with anyone else in terms of distance or speed - I’m just doing it for my own enjoyment and fitness.
One lesson I have brought with me from last time is ***short steps***. It would be useful if C25K stressed the importance of this more for beginners.

Thanks! I think it’s common to believe running has to mean moving quickly, so we stride out and quickly get out of breath. I know the first time around that was me. It was only over the weeks and reading comments on here that I got the message😊
Huge well done for you for not giving up on the running! It seems a great idea for you to start the programme again and build up your stamina gradually. Your determination is inspiring and I’m sure you’ll get there! If you’ve kept up your fitness levels with the walking, that’s such a good thing and will only help. Look forward to reading about your progress.
Thanks for your encouraging comments! I think I could probably have started a few weeks into the course, as my walks have been reasonably brisk with some small hills. But I’m happy getting outside with my Get Running app and music again.
You probably could have, but as you say, there’s no rush! And you’re enjoying the programme. That’s the main thing, it certainly won’t do you any harm to start at the beginning! 😊
Yeah. Well done for starting again. Sound like a good start. Emphasising starting slow for every run is vital. I recall setting off too quickly for one run. Disaster.
Also small steps at your own pace is excellent advice.
