I’m not going to lie to you... I did struggle this week. For the first two of the runs my brain was saying (actually shouting) “take a break, stop running, you’re tired - no one will know if you walked a bit”
It’s true, no one would know - but I would! So it took a lot of bargaining with myself to keep going, the promise of a Mars bar, a gin & tonic in the evening, fish and chips, a fat slice of cake - literally anything to keep my legs moving and complete the run successfully.
Anyway, it worked and these legs kept moving.
I never actually had ANY of these treats, but I needed to tell myself I could if I wanted to. It seems that the thought of cake keeps my gremlins at bay.
Third run of the week was much better. No bargaining with myself needed, I just ran and it was surprisingly quite good. Ending week 7 on a good run makes it easier to look forward to the next week.

Thanks, I've done 2 runs this week, I was going to do the third this morning but it was just too windy, it took my breath. I still did my 4.5 mile brisk walk and I'll do my run tomorrow weather permitting. xx
Ahh so good to hear it’s going well for you! We just need to remind ourselves that better weather is coming.... I’m not sure how we will all cope in the summer months! 😎
I done the same run this morning, my first wk 7 run was ok, 2nd was better and this one much too fast (for me) and I was glad to stop! Keep going, see you in week 8!!
My second run this week was pretty bad, I thought it was cold and I wore a light jacket which was a mistake and I overheated, that meant my breathing was heavy and I couldn’t get it together I was running way too fast for my current fitness level too and the result was a less than enjoyable run... I don’t know why I ran too fast, I just did.
Week 7 has been a definite shift for me, I no longer feel like I’m just having a bash at it - I’m genuinely trying to get it right.Even bought new running gear! 😆
You may find distraction helpful, so that the last things you think about are time and the physicality of running. If music doesn't do it, try podcasts or audiobooks. I used to give myself a running commentary on everything that I could see, hear, feel and smell as I ran, in full florid sentences.
Thanks, I actually tried this today. I remember reading this on another post... it didn’t go too well and I was just saying “oh look at that green grass, and that brown stick” probably need to work on that a bit - but I’ll give it another go! Cheers
well done you!! I chickened out on weather grounds, but will do that run tomorrow!! Good luck for next week.
Hey Hidden , yep the weather has been all over the place this week hasn’t it? I’ve never spent so long looking at weather forecasts and wind directions in my life! It seems that the weather where I am in York has had all seasons in one day today!
Hope you get some calmer weather for your run tomorrow - week 8 gang here we come!!
I just did w7r2 this morning and it was so hard. Half way through I thought about walking, but I knew I’d be so disappointed with myself. I did it and even managed a short speed up for the last 60 seconds. I’m going to have an orange twirl to celebrate!
Good luck with week 8, it’s only another 3 minutes, that’s doable right? 😬
joeyg76 I think it’s possible, in fact it must be because 7 weeks ago I couldn’t run for one minute... so everything is possible!
I get what you mean, being disappointed in yourself is the worst. Grit and determination gets me through tough runs. And yep I also managed the 60second sprint at the end - I did tell Jo to bore off when she suggested it, but then I went and did it anyway. Because I’m stubborn and I decide when I speed up not her 😆
See you with your orange Twirl.....Fancy! Enjoy it and all the best for your third run of wk7.
Well done! I was right along there with you, I completed the same run after work. I've been planting trees all day and I did think that 8 hours of walking around in the mud, digging and using back muscles that didn't know they were there might have meant I couldn't run today, but this was the best run of the week for me! Obviously instead of a 5 min walk to warm up, I need 8 hours 😂 I'm glad you found it a bit easier too, maybe our bodies are accepting that we're going to keep doing this so they might as well stop complaining and just get on with it! See you over on w8... after a well deserved weekend off
Oh well done on getting the run completed after a day of manual labour! At least you knew you were well warmed up for the run.
I’d love to say that my body is accepting of the situation and will just comply, but I’m not completely certain I won’t need to pull the ol’ sticky buns and cake promise out at least once more.
