Have I have graduated but jogging has been erratic. I am currently jogging 20/30 mins twice a week and mostly just want to improve my fitness and health/ keep a bit of weight off.

How do you know?

What device are you using? It is VERY common for wrist-based devices to give false readings.

Apols for delayed reply.

Wrist-based devices are notoriously unreliable for heart-rate data - Fitbits especially so. Fitbits are made and marketed as 'lifestyle'/health rather than dedicated running devices, and their accuracy reflects that.

HOWEVER... even the latter can give very erratic HR readings. I have a Garmin FR235 - a very popular running watch with wrist-based optical heart rate monitor (HRM) but I can't rely on it, so I use a chest-strap (electrical signal detector) which never fails me.

So... don't concern yourself too much with you numbers, but focus instead on how you actually feel during your jogs. And if you really are jogging then your effort level will be low and your true heart rate willl reflect that. As long as your breathing if comfortable and you can talk easily enough, then you're doing absolutely fine.

When we started week 1 my heart rate showed at 186 and that rather worried me but after reading about wrist based heart rate devices not being that accurate I calmed down and over time my heart rate has got lower even when i run for longer It’s more about how you feel, dizziness nausea breathlessness? if you have any of these slow down or stop

Read the guide that includes hydration and if you are at all concerned give your doctor a ring and get a check up
