Getting harder now!

Did Run 2 of Wk 6 today and am finding things more difficult now for some reason. I have mild asthma and wonder if the recent cold weather is the culprit. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Definitely running when the air temperature is at or below freezing is challenging even for us without asthma.

A buff (tubular scarf) or a face mask might help.

Thank you. 👍

Well done.

If it is tough, just slow down.

The cold air constricts your breathing, so you might try wearing a buff over your nose and mouth, which will warm the air to a degree.

Thank you. It's due to get warmer Sunday!👍

Keep it up.Even do a lot of walking.

Aim for +10,000 steps a day.

Go to your local shopping mall.

I even run in carpark buildings when it is dark or the weather is poor.

Pick times when few cars around and its usually fully lit like a stadium!

As your fitness and stamina improves your oxygen uptake will improve.

You may well find your asthma becoming a thing of the past.

Yes. I’m not really asthmatic but can get wheezy when it’s really cold. But as you go to longer intervals, you should be slowing down anyway.

Hi Motowngal. I'm also mildly asthmatic and very nearly packed this in at around week 5. However, I was persuaded by this forum to slow right down and that really worked for me, even though I thought I was already slow. I'm now at week 9 so I know I'll finish. But yes, the very cold weather doesn't help - I've held off going out for a few days. Good luck!

That's interesting, thank you. I think I've also been found out stamina wise! Well done for teaching week 9. 🏃😊

As well as the practical advice re air temperature etc, some runs just seem very hard sometimes and other times it just flows. Don't lose heart, it's par for the course, just do what your body allows and set your mind on your goal. Also, you have a secret weapon if you're a Motown Girl, set it up to play those great tracks and you'll soon be where you're aiming for. 😉

Thank you. I've breezed through so far and have now been found out! I must burn some of my Motown CDs so I can listen whilst running - good idea. 😊

So sad about Mary Wilson, The Supremes were my idols back in the day. 😕

We must be of a similar age. I too was shocked to hear about Mary Wilson. I was heavily into Diana Ross songs as a teenager. She's still going strong.
