Woke up this morning from a not so great night sleep and my legs were still a little achy and stiff from the 5k on Tuesday. I was going to have another rest day but decided not to and to just do a nice slow chill 30 mins jog super super slow as to not break my streak of exercise every other day I have got going for this year so far.
My mind was already not really there and, couldn’t settle into any sort of rhythm or even choose any music I felt I wanted to listen to so about 10 mins in kinda was like nah I can’t do this today! so took a walk and then got annoyed that I stopped so started jogging again, then did some sprints then walked then did some more jogging and then walked some more, all in all a very schizophrenic session today 😂.
Happy I did something but ya... not counting this as a consolidation run, but have an irrational thought that if I were to not run until Monday i will lose the tiny bit of fitness, I’ve gained completing c25k.
You went out, you ran, whatever you did was something that your body can respond to so it was still a worthwhile activity. The good thing is you did listen to your body during the run and did what felt right so helped avoiding injury.
From what I've read you won't lose any fitness by waiting until Monday to run next.
I walked during my latest CR too. Thought of it as a failure, until people pointed out that it wasn't. You have to listen to your body and if that says WALK, then walk it is!
I will keep trying for the full 30 mins, but if my body is crying out to walk, I will walk and I will not think of it as a failure.
Sometimes purple_ums it happens, they can't all go to plan 👀, but you rejigged it, mixed it up and came back with something 👍 always better than nothing well done 🙂.
If you don't run until Monday, that fitness will still be there btw.....
I think that CR1 is a challenge for everyone. You’ve had the support of the app or podcast for 9 weeks and then, bang, nothing except your own thoughts or music choices. Don’t be so hard on yourself - you’ve graduated, you know that you can run for 30 mins, you’ll do it next time. A run/walk combo is still exercise.
A dear friend of mine who has been running recreationally for years says there is no such thing as a bad run and that the ones that you initially think are ‘bad’ are the ones that you learn the most from.
Another wise person on this forum advised me to have a ‘run bin’ (subsequently renamed after another post as my ‘f@ck it bucket’. Do the run, if it feels like a shocker think about why that might have been, take what you need from that and then bin/bucket it. Simple as that because, as I know all too well, not every outing is going to be a masterpiece of athleticism.
I think you get a gold ⭐️ for getting out there! And also with not a great night’s sleep. Yesterday wasn’t a run day for me, thank goodness - had slept so badly the night before, but had it been a run day, I don’t think I could have done it. So you have achieved something great regardless! 👍👏🏼😀
