The first run on 2021 was “a practice”

I mixed it up again today and ran a different route which took me down a main road.... I know what your going to say, but I couldn’t help but worry about what people thought of me running which made me run quicker... which inevitably meant I didn’t manage the 30 minutes without a couple of walks.

I didn’t see this as a failure... I have taken the positives away, I managed a different route and ran longer than I thought I could at a quicker speed. I mean even the fact I was out running/walking rather than watching TV on my bum has got to be good.

I think it’s worth mentioning, I stupidly thought it would be a breeze after I completed the program, now I realise that isn’t the case, I’m not going to let this put me off though.... instead I’m setting myself a couple of goals

- Continue to run at least 3 times a week

- Shoulder permitting, try strength training on days I’m not running

- Run the new route on at least on of the runs

- My plan is to go back a couple of weeks and learn run the weeks quicker

That’s the plan for now anyway... I plan on posting on here as normal too :)

It's certainly not a breeze, especially if you keep challenging yourself.

At some point in the coming weeks, you're going to have a day when the stars align just right, you keep your speed in check, and you'll feel like you could run forever. It doesn't happen often, but it's worth all the work you've put in to have it happen.

I walked a bit in my last run. I think Christmas and New Year were having their final say. At least we got out . Try to continue 3x 30 minutes per week for at least 3 weeks. You can look at increasing speed maybe once a week in February. Only do 25 or 28 minute runs if you are totally shot. Or if your trainers get stuck in the mud.

Let me tell you what people think....the majority think good on you for getting out there and getting fit.....and the ones who don’t....aren’t worth worrying about. Running is seldom a breeze and remember you’re still new to it even though you’ve graduated. So be patient and kind to yourself. I use the Nike Run Club App runs, the coach on those is good company and encouraging, he’s a typically enthusiastic American, but certainly helps. Stick with it HC. Maybe a challenge would do you good, take a look at Race at Your Pace 👍🏃‍♀️

I don't know you but whenever I've seen someone out there struggling but doing it anyway I am so impressed! And tbh put to shame. Which is one reason why I'm now here 😊
