Ahhhhhhh welcome along you fantastic runnersโฆโฆ. It's a brand new shiny year ๐
Did you make that new year's resolution??? You didn't ๐ so how's about trying aโฆ..
Resolution =โ
Run-o-lution ๐ฅณโ
"Pardon, what was that you're not a runner! Would you like to run ๐ง? You wouldโฆ.. well that's just brilliant pull up a seat, you've arrived at the right place and right on time. That urge whatever it was has dragged you through the door to our little weekly gathering.
You want to introduce yourself to the rest of your running family feel free, no pressure. But hey if you just want to sit there quietly and take it all in that's cool by us๐.
So are you already running, returning to running, perhaps you've graduated C25K now you want to go furtherโฆโฆ.. how much further ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ.
If your wondering about that next step, that next shiny badge. Maybe you should check out, bridge to 10k who knows how far it'll take you??
Feel free to pop in as and when you want, share those adventures, pick up those bits of advice to get you through your next run. You can be reassured you've come to the right place.
You may think the question you want to ask is a silly one, but we guarantee someone will have asked it before you, and someone will have the answer ๐ค.
So if you've got the couch to 5 k app downloaded, you've been thinking about it but never have started, here's the thing you need to know above everything elseโฆ..
Great! I just started this morning... not really a resolution-making person but realised Iโm solely responsible for my own well-being and longevity, so just got up, dusted of the old trainers and ran (well, at intervals!) Feeling chuffed and motivated for my next session on Sunday!
We can do it! ๐๐ถโโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
Brilliant news Scott ๐, well done on quitting the smoking, that is super news. In the post there's a link by IannodaTruffe, it contains some fantastic advice all about C25k, the main thing is to enjoy it, we've all been there with you, week one run one, you do this! Trust the plan, and keep us updated on your progress...
Just thought Iโd share a brief (for me!) run down (see what I did?) of my C25k journey...
...My bio will give the full gory details of my health issues...
Restarted a regular walking programme last February...there are some posts on the Active10 and Daily Walks forums, but never honestly considered taking up jogging...
However...I started C25k in August, the day after my retirement birthday. I *slowly*...and this is important!...worked my way through the programme and graduated in October, covering 3.3km in my 30 minutes.
I consolidated with regular jogs of 30 minutes, 2 or 3 times a week.
...I then strayed over to Bridge to 10km...๐ฑ
Using an 8 week programme called JuJuโs Magic Plan...I started gradually increasing the times of my runs. Yesterday, New Yearโs Eve, I jogged non stop for 60 minutes...covering 5.97km.
So...anything is possible if you put your mind to it. You are not too old, too unfit or too overweight to do this. When youโre plagued by demons and hitting the wall...this group is here to support you and get you through.
Some final points:
The correct title should be Couch to 30 minutes...but that doesnโt sound as snappy.
SLOW DOWN!
Donโt think about elite athletes when you think about running...think ๐๐ข๐
Look up Japanese Slow Jogging...
Itโs NOT a race, you go at your own pace...
You can not bottle that feel good factor when you hit your own person mile stones ๐ฅฐ
You can do it! Happy running in 2021 ๐๐ข๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐ฝโโ๏ธโค๏ธ๐
That's brilliant LottieMW and such valuable encouragement for anyone starting, or thinking about starting ๐.
People can get easily hung up on times, but in essence C25k isn't aiming to develop the next Mo Farah ( but you never know he may be reading this ๐)
But what the plan does aim to do and well it's pretty darn successful at, it to get you running for 30 minutes non stop, though nobody's worried if you need a walking break "jeffing" is well documented and shouldn't be frowned upon. Ask an ultra runner if they walk!!!.
Keep going LottieMW you're fantastic and have a happy healthy 2021
Indeed, because of the stricter lockdown rules in Wales, Iโve had to forego my (relatively) level scenic routes. My 60 minutes had a total elevation gain of 113m...including a wickedly steep bit...where I walked! ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
Happy new year ๐ฅณ๐๐๐๐ฅณOK I'm saying it, my runolutions...to continue running 3-4 times a week and one to be more than 5km.
Aaand to consume no more alcohol than the number of the month, so 1 drink in January, 2 in February and so on. Those will not be mandatory, I'm hoping that by May I pretty much won't bother.
Brilliant to have you along Jell6 ๐and what brilliant goals. You'll be hitting that 10k again before you know it.... Good luck ๐ฅณ happy healthy safe 2021
Hi, just reading your post and others and they are really inspiring. I am going to take my first step tomorrow and start this app. Feeling a little nervous but its time to get out and get fit..i hope I won't be too self conscious as not got a running bod and will be pounding the streets, but Im doing this to change my mindset and lift the low mood that I just can't seem to shrug off. So here's to hoping this will be just what I need right now. A focus and getting off the couch x
CJAY46 you're in the right place, go easy on yourself, I believe in you, so you can believe in you!! And loads of people on here will be rooting for you ๐๐ช read the plan attached to the Run-a-lution page and let us know how you get along..... We've all been that runner looking at the first run๐
Thanks Imc50! I did my first run this morning. I was really nervous to start with. But went with the app and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, plus I felt so much better after doing it. Here's to my next run on Tuesday ๐
My run went kinda nicely chilly but good, forgot to wash leggings so twas a shorts clad run ๐ฅถ๐คฆ...
Definitely get used to stretching out thoroughly afterwards you really need to! And hold those stretches for a good time don't make them painful but you want to feel them ๐ cracking start
