This was a tricky one. I once again woke up at 3.30am having gone to bed at 10pm and couldn’t get back to sleep. I got up and watched The Sopranos for a few hours and had breakfast around 5am. I decided I wasn’t going to run as my legs felt achy and I was physically tired from working yesterday. By 7am I felt like a run and out I went.
Blondie and Gang Of Four helped me through the first 10 mins which I negotiated pretty well but felt extra tired. By 15mins I was having doubts about finishing. The slight incline around 20mins made me feel physically sick (along with my earlier breakfast) and I had to dig really deep to make it to 25 mins. Elbow and Elvis Costello helped me make it to the end but I almost stopped several times due to nausea. Instead I have another run under my belt.
My peak heart rate was slightly higher today (169) which confirms I was finding it tougher than usual. I think I was just tired and whenever I eat before I run it often makes me feel sick. I have the hiatus hernia to blame for that!
This was one of my hardest runs despite it being way into my consolidation runs. I’m still not ready to make the step up to 10K. Perhaps I never will be.

Well done mate. Just getting through a Gang of Four song makes you a hero. Hahaha. Just joking. Give yourself a pat on the back for carrying on even though you were knackered.
Wow, well done on the run despite the lack of sleep. I too found recently I couldn’t run very far after breakfast, a half banana does me well. Good music choice there, it does help, doesn’t it. I too wonder if I can make it to 10k, having done my 2nd consolidation run today and found it a bit hard going at one point. But then I think, when I started, I couldn’t do 30 min continuously without running out of breath, so I’m hopeful still. Best wishes for your running journey. 🌈
I couldn't run (or even get up!) that early, so well done for that! Maybe once you've run 5k enough times that it becomes easy, then you could think about 10k... I think that'll be a while for me too
I really admire the perseverance in this post. Not only getting up that early but continuing when feeling sick and the feeling of working a little harder than normal. The main thing is that you did it and certainly weren't put off. I think we could all do with a bit of your motivation from time-to-time Dodgylungs 🙂
Ah thank you so much. I think you’re going great guns yourself. I am pleased I’ve managed to keep going for this long. I see myself getting fitter even though it’s still hard and now don’t want to lose this fitness I have. Hopefully I’ll be able to start moving towards an hour long run soon.
