I have so much to tell you....like, how yesterday, the day after my first run, I was soooo sore that I had to go out for a walk for fear my legs may not work today. So many excuses went through my head yesterday. "Maybe I should take this soreness as an indication that I just wasn't made for this," "I can just delete my account on health unlocked, they're on the other side of the world, it won't matter to them if I quit." For hours, I argued with myself.
But I KNOW that finding you all was no coincidence. I need this. I want this. I prayed for this! And you are all exactly the accountability partners that I dreamed about.
So, this morning, to my surprise I woke up early, before my alarm. The sun wasn't quite up all the way, but I was excited to get out there. And guess what? No soreness! I felt light, energetic... and to my SHOCK, like a ....RUNNER!!!! π
YES, I ran slowly (I remember the advice to run slowly to avoid shin splints), but I didn't feel alone, I knew that somewhere in the world, my friends at Health unlocked were doing the same! And that mattered to me! You guys matter!
I would have never done this day 2 without you. Thank you!!!! I feel AMAZING..and it's all because of you! π₯°π€
Fantastic achievement TanyaSππππππ. As we've all experienced on here having the support of the people on this forum makes a HUGE difference. Not only do we get sound running advice, but genuine support from others who are at various stages in their running journey. And...."you didn't feel alone"....how wonderful is that feeling heyπππ. We just gotta keep movingππ. Fab post...thanks for sharing and WELL DONE again.πππ
Stretching immediately after every run, nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/h... while muscles are still warm and supple, pulls out contractions, avoiding carrying tensions into the next run and also improves recovery by improving blood flow, as recommended in the guide to the plan.
Many people do not hold their stretches for long enough or put enough effort in. Hold post run stretches for 30 seconds and make sure the pull is strong enough to be on the verge of discomfort.
Thank you! I did read the article, and today I did try to hold the stretch even longer. In fact, I found many YouTube videos with deep stretches for runners. I am going to start Incorporating those after my runs.
Well done Tanya ππ The first week is one of the hardest as it's quite a shock to the system. π² I've just graduated after thinking 'what is this torture' in week 1!!? π€£ Have belief in the programme and most importantly in yourself, go slow and steady, post often and you'll be absolutely fine π
Also you're doing the stretches, which is great and will really help, but don't forget to drink lots of water too. That certainly helps with recovery. πββοΈπͺ
The great thing about this forum is that weβve all been there so know what itβs like, so itβs very supportive π Keep going real slow π’π do the warm ups and cool downs and drink lots of water.
