Iโm very late with these posts although I have been reading and commenting on everyone elseโs.
So... here goes! Sorry long post and possibly very boring ๐
C6 last Sunday, second run with hubbie ๐โโ๏ธ๐ the clocks had gone back here so we were awake very early. The forecast was for rain all day from 8am ๐ฆ so I leapt out of bed and said โcome on weโre going nowโ ๐ฎ never thought Iโd get that keen ๐ We went on a slightly different route but incorporating some of my run from last week. I couldnโt decide what to listen to and in a rush to get out the door, selected the first thing that popped up which was the BBC Sounds 33 minute Lockdown podcast...I thought I was a bit sad choosing that (always had music ๐ถ before) but was keen to know how it was going to affect our boys and family at home. Hubbie lead the way and I told him to stretch out ahead if he wanted and I followed at my own pace and was fine until about 10 mins in when we came out onto a main road and quite a steep stretch of hill. I was ok whilst going up it, slow and steady ๐ข but when it levelled out it took me until 25 mins to fully recover ๐ However, we headed back into the park and at 30 mins I was very conscious of the time. The podcast finished and we were on a slight downhill bit so I shouted to my husband โsee you at the bottom, Iโll meet you by the seatโ. When we stopped he told me me weโd run 4.85 km and said โ if youโd just run to that tree ๐ณโ pointing further along the path โyouโd have done 5kโ ๐คทโโ๏ธ oh well, at least I know I should be able to do it when I want to ๐ค We did get slightly wet walking home but I discovered that I didnโt actually mind a bit of cool drizzle ๐ง It did then pour for the rest of the day and then we had our first snow that night โ๏ธ
C7 on Wednesday and on my own again ๐โโ๏ธ The weather had gone from one extreme to the other ๐ and forecast to reach 20 degrees so I was keen to get out early again. I had planned on listening to the Bruce and Dermot interview but when I tried to start it, it said โNot Available Outside the UKโ ๐คฌ So I thought Iโd give NRC another go and selected a Headspace 30 minute one which I really enjoyed. I decided on another route that for the first time would take me back to the park via the creek. Iโve never run on anything other than pavements or tarmac before. I started well but it was warm and humid again so not my favourite conditions ๐ฅต I found myself having to run down a few steps (very carefully) to get to the path and then along through the woods by the creek on a (dry) muddy path. It made a pleasant change but I nearly tripped over a tree stump ๐ฌ and had to be super careful on some very narrow bits. Although it was a pleasant change I was very happy to stop at 30 minutes feeling tired and hot and walked the rest of the way home.
C8 was Friday and still warm but not humid. Hubbie was working from home and looked most miffed when I said I was off out as he couldnโt come too ๐ Iโd been listening to the Zoe Ball breakfast show so just decided to keep listening to that. I decided to re run Wednesdays route but cut down to the creek earlier. I was about 20 minutes in and picking my way (carefully I thought) through the leaves ๐ ๐ and just as I was reminding myself to be careful of the tree stump Iโd nearly fallen over on Wednesday, I promptly tripped over some raised roots and ended up on the floor ๐ I immediately thought of Tinytears60 and quickly picked myself up brushed myself down and thought โI must keep goingโ so thankfully with only a muddy left knee and sore palms and with no more than 30 seconds gone and only injured pride, I carried on feeling thankful that I didnโt think any dog walkers had spotted me ๐คHaving already been delayed I thought I might as well take a photo, a first for me whilst out running, so whilst jogging on spot ๐ I managed to do so without falling over again. I even ran a couple of minutes extra at the end to ensure Iโd done my 30 minutes.
Iโve been thinking about how much Iโve learnt this week and the value of consolidating. Iโm still going out 3 times a week and it is definitely part of my routine now. My expectation is that I will run for 30 minutes because I know I can, even if itโs hard. I enjoy trying new routes and different terrain (albeit very limited here) and will be more adventurous from now on. I even donโt mind a bit of cooling drizzle! Iโve found I donโt have to listen to my playlists and that a podcast or Radio programme is a good alternative.
And most importantly, for my self preservation, when running through the woods I need to pick my feet up higher than I do on the pavements ๐
So onwards to another week. Weโre lucky enough to be having a week away but will be thinking of all you fellow runners and hoping youโre getting through another difficult time ๐
Keep safe and keep running ๐โโ๏ธ๐

3 great sounding runs! I too was tempted to 'off road' last run but I didn't, precisely because I didn't want to risk falling on my ass ๐คฃ maybe in the spring ๐คฃ
Iโm worried the upcoming snow and ice might derail my running as Iโm terrified of slipping on that ๐ฌ Anyway will carry on whilst the going is good ๐ and letโs hope we can all stay on our feet ๐ค๐
I was wondering how you were doing ๐ค Bugger about the tumble but it sounds as though it was only your pride that got hurt ๐
Youโre getting out more often than me but Iโve just done CR6 and will post in a minute.
Iโm finding the earlier nights and current workload is getting in the way ๐คฏ๐ก but it is what it is right now, and Iโm so pleased to have found ๐โโ๏ธ so that I can unwind ๐
Ouchy, sorry to hear about your tumble, glad it didnโt hurt enough to stop you from powering on - what a trooper!
Sounds like some great runs otherwise, such a wonderful thing to be comfortable and confident with your outings. Keep on and enjoy your break away. (Taking your running gear?) ๐โบ๏ธ
Did feel a bit stiff I have to say and a bruise appeared on my right calf and my left knee was twingy ๐ glad I carried on though otherwise itโs easy to stiffen up. My worst fear is that Iโm going to jolt my neck and back ๐ฌ
Anyway, havenโt run today but will do tomorrow if I feel ok and oh yes, have definitely bought all the gear ๐๐
Hah! My worst nightmare is to go *rse over t*t!๐
...but how brill to have that expectation that you *will* run, because you *can* ๐
...and what freedom to not be bogged down in only being able to do it a certain way...lucky for us that we keep on having techy probs, and therefore have managed without those โcrutchesโ ๐
Enjoy your week away, May you find some new routes!
Iโve been absolutely dying to say that...properly ๐... but thought it might not be pc on here so am delighted to hear you reference it ๐คฃ๐คฃ
I think weโve come so far Lottie and are very fortunate that weโve been able to keep going. I really think weโre past that psychological barrier now and itโs become part of our lives, despite knowing that itโs not always gonna be easy ๐
And talking of new routes ๐ณ I have to tell you that we went out this morning, thinking that running round close to a lake would be flattish ๐คbut oh no ๐ฌ far from it ๐ I sure got more than I bargained for ๐ฑ stupid really, of course being in the mountains itโs not going to be flat for long ๐ Anyway 31 minutes I did ๐ช๐คฌ๐ก
Glad youโre out of your โfirebreakโ now ๐๐โโ๏ธ๐ฅฐ
Oh yes definitely. Mr.Lottie now asks if itโs a Run day or not ๐
I bet it was scenic though...mountains and lakes ๐
Iโm a little excited...looked at the Magic Plan W2...distance Run is 39 minutes...plus 5+5 mins warm up/cool down...my first Consolidation Run was a (not) Park Run of 47 minutes...Iโm almost going to be doing a proper 5k eek!
Well if Iโm to do this tomorrow, Iโd better get to bed ๐ค
Hope youโre fully recovered from the tumble , itโs always such a shock to go down , Iโve done it a couple of times walking the dog . I get quite cross as I think โ good grief when did I start having fallsโ ๐ I felt positively ancient ๐๐
The 5k runs will just be your โnormโ soon too .
I appear to just be doing 4K in 30 mins as Iโm really keeping my pace down if possible . I have though started to move onto 35 minutes ( in the absence of any plan really) so Iโm doing 4.5 k . Think Iโll do a few of those.
Iโm Struggling finding time to run ( and post) at the moment but Iโm enjoying the runs that I am doing .
I think by doing the same 30 minute run that Iโm relaxing into them and now I can maybe inch forward on either time or distance ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ
Hopefully Iโll get my act together and get a bi5 of a routine back soon , well done you for getting out there so regularly still ๐๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐
Ok now thank you ๐ just a bruise left on my calf ๐ I know what you mean about falling, I felt the same, and part of my job was falls prevention ๐
Glad youโre still out there and going strong, itโs funny how it becomes harder to find time to post isnโt it. I still check in on everyone else...donโt want to sound like a stalker though... but that doesnโt seem to take so long ๐คทโโ๏ธ
So lovely of you to enquire after me ๐ Unfortunately Iโve not been very well, hence my absence from the forum ๐ feeling very out of touch. Have just posted ๐
