W9R1 Injury couch and RICE

Was really excited to finally get to W9 and be able to complete the programme this week.

Started really well but after half way through felt a twinge in my right quad. Common sense says stop and walk back, but no..... I carried on even though I knew it was sore, because I wanted to complete my first 30 minute run.

I did complete it, but didn’t get the feel good factor at having done my first 30 minute run 😒. I’m so disappointed in myself. Pride and eagerness got in the way 😑

So yet again I’m on the injury couch doing RICE. Hopefully it will recover by the weekend.

Anyone with niggles don’t be like me, stop and walk back. It’s not worth the set back particularly in W9 ☹️

It’s never ending, I had 5 weeks off at W6 with ankle injury. I will get there but it is very very frustrating.

Oh dear , yes 5 weeks is a long time .

However, it shows determination πŸ‘

My time out was just 16 days

Well hopefully this recovers more quickly as I don’t want too lose the fitness I’ve built up. But less of my moaning. My a Dad always said β€˜ patience is a virtue’ so I guess I’ll be patient πŸ‘πŸ»

Awww noooo.... so gutting, especially in week 9. I was only reflecting on Sunday about me being on the "niggle couch" on week 8. I think the ramp up to running 3 long runs at this stage does add some exponential stresses. But, if I can reassure you, I have just completed consolidation 20 and run at least 25 minutes to 38 in each of these and occasionally my knee feels "funny" or muscles feel right, but usually still OK to gonour for the next planned session.

Hope this helps!!

When I was at this week 8 or 9 stage, I had to sit it out for 4 days and then carried on and completed as planned.

You will do it!!

My own fault really, I should have listened to my body. But no point crying over spilt milk now.

If it 4 days or longer I won’t quit. Think I was feeling sorry for myself and very frustrated earlier. When I was injured in W6 I was out for 5 weeks and had to go back and start from W 3 to get my fitness back.

So I will definitely carry on.

Your post has really helped, I will get back out there and do it! πŸ’ͺ

Bty, well done on your consolidations. Wow 😁πŸ’ͺ

Well done but also sorry you're feeling that niggle. Hopefully with ice and a short break you will recover well and be able to run again soon.

Thank you. Icing it for 20mins every hour, with ibuprofen and paracetamol for the pain as prescribed. 🀞🏻I will be out soon 😊

On my graduation run something happened about two minutes from the end. I kept running to do the 5k. I also walked back for another half an hour.

I also tried running again three days later when I thought I was ready. I wasn't.

For that foolhardiness I earned four weeks on the injury couch and two physio visits, with two sprained ankle ligaments and a shin splint.
