Well today was my week 7 run 3 but it took my most determined grit yet due to bad weather.
It’s icy cold raining all day. I first took my dog for an hours walk (As usual) and despite us both wearing top notch waterproofs, both came home soaked through and not happy about the experience. (Not walking the puppy not an option - So much energy!).
Once we’re in and pups settled is my window of opportunity to go for a run. But I was cold through, and the rain hadn’t eased. I waited it out for an hour and read “How to run like a girl” (New book) which motivated me. Thought it’s going to rain next 3 days, never gonna be a good time so with fresh dry running gear, cap and waterproof I set out. I’ve so far had a few refreshing runs in the rain but normally on a hot day and a welcome relief. Today was not fun.
I was soaked through by end of the warm up but warmer in my anorak. The run went ok, my pace had naturally picked up a bit (subconscious saying hot bath beckons lol). I had technical faults as music and app froze (think wet phone had something to do with it 😳). But for the first time the last 5 mins were a real challenge 🥺
Week 7 Run 2 at the last five mins I realised I was too far from home and gave a good final pace to avoid a long walk. Today I was running in puddles (path flooded) squelching and tired of being cold and wet. My legs and breathing were fine but my motivation had got up and left. I’m proud to say I slowed the pace right down and ran it til the end but boy was it a challenge. Hot bath was the best reward. I did it (stupidly it not).
Roll on week 8 and dryer weather! Think I’ll wait out the weather longer in future, but can see the end goal in sight, 6 runs til graduation!
PS - are soaked trainers salvageable?
Keep running guys, we got this!

Awesome I hate rain and cold so when that day comes I will be at a gym. Question how do people run with more clothes on? Stay cold then I get so hot but then really cold again a recipe for getting unwell.
Hiya, thanks for your reply. Yeah I think gym better option next time. I didn’t think I could run in lots of clothes, normally just in t shirt or vest top but the icy rain meant T-shirt, long sleeved top and Waterproof with running sports cap under hood. Thought I’d over heat but it was just right. Planned to tie coat/ extra layer round waist if I warmed up, but didn’t happen lol. This cold weather running gonna be a new learning curve!
Well done for having the grit to carry on. Totally agree about the rain, lovely when it's hot but combined with cold wind...ugh!
Agree with acountrycabbage, stuff the shoes with balls of newspaper and let the dry naturally.
Earlier this afternoon I drove to a branch of Sports Direct and got a long sleeved Under Armour base shirt. It was just the job this afternoon, kept me just warm enough and yet didn't end up wringing with sweat, just pleasant.
Good luck with your next runs...the end is in sight!
Thanks CazzaW, we’re nearly then, finish line just around the corner lol. We got this! You have a great weekend too, we got heavy winds and wet weather here so planning a Netflix chill and own lockdown (by choice). Staying dry til Monday run lol (except the dog walks 🤞). Take care
Yes your trainers will dry out fine, and so will you. I would try and embrace cold/rain running. That’s what living in the UK involves and it can make you feel likes warrior 😖
Hi helenwheels, thanks for your reply. Yeah that’s why I thought got to go for it, if rain puts me off I’m never gonna fun for the next 6 months. I do like the warrior image though lol. Will update running wear to suit the weather. Take care
It must be done! 😇 Maybe we should cover ourselves in woad patterns like woad warriors of old ...a play on road warriors? Oh dear that was bad wasn't it. 😟
