A wee staycation

We are away for a few days at the very North of bonnie Scotland. As I am sight impaired, I was anxious about running in somewhere I'm not familiar with , street furniture is not my friend , so hubby and I did a wee recky yesterday and I blooming did it ! We are in Wick , going to John O'Groats later for the photo op .Anyway, a photo from my run this morning

Brilliant! Holiday running can be daunting, finding a route, not getting lost etc, but it's a wonderful way to see a location and keep your fitness up! 👍🏻😁

Don't forget to visit the north extremity at Dunnet Head and the northeast extremity at Duncansby Head. When we visited the visibility was nil: it was very foggy.

I badly bruised a toe joint when I snagged a toe on the thick carpet in one of the rooms in the Seaview Hotel in John O'Groats about ten years ago.

Ohh, that's a nasty injury lol, have to watch thick carpets! My husband used to come up this way often as a child on holiday, the furthest North in the mainland I've been was Ullapool, midges were hell !

I stayed in Ullapool once overnight for the boat to Stornoway.

Also stayed in the bunkhouse in Lochinver the weekend they were doing the Highland Games there. We had a stadium view from the upstairs window. I thought I saw a seal in the loch in the evening, went down to the waterside with my camera, got some photos of the loch itself and the sunset, none of the seal, and came back with an armful of midge bites.

We are Scots but live in lowland Scotland, so we have seen lots of bits .No foreign holidays for the foreseeable future so let's explore home ! We have a chance of seeing grey seal, bottle nosed dolphin and risso dolphin too .Not the season for orca though!

Snap. I was away recently (also Scotland) and assumed I would stop running during my holiday. Instead, I found a beautiful forest and a gorgeous tiny road to run on and my runs became one of the highlights of my holiday. It made me realise how lovely it was to have a hobby which you can take anywhere and use to explore and enjoy your new locations.

I also learned that my legs actually do run uphill (albeit much more slowly than I would walk uphill!!.... )

What a nice view for your run. We had a holiday last week closer to home this year too. We did a caravan trip up north here in my state. Our travel is restricted between some of the states in Australia. Last year we actually travelled to Scotland, we love it there. I too went out for 1 run on my trip last week, it wasn’t a success. I ran in the afternoon, I am usually an early morning person, it was extremely windy and I only managed to do 3.2km, 22minutes. We got home yesterday and I got up early this morning and managed a 30 minute run without any problems.
