Just a short 3.5K this morning

Well, when I say short, I mean 3.5K haha .

After my longer and slower 10K on Saturday I decided I needed a quicker run .

It certainly won't break any records but I haven't sweat so much since C25K week 1 haha.

It was good, I enjoyed it and that's what matters 😁

I had a different playlist ,

David Bowie's The rise and fall of Ziggy stardust.

This brought back memories of seeing him perform this live in Manchester many moons ago 😁

I set off at a pace where I was just comfortable but knew I was working and really just wanted to see if I could maintain that pace , it wasen't easy but it was doable .

I had ran about 3K when I came up behind 2 more joggers , initially they were walking then one looked at her watch and they both set off running again ,

I actually caught up with them and started to chat as I ran alongside them ,

They were on C25K week 1 so not wanting to put them off, I wished them good luck and ran on ahead for around another half k

At which point I decided to stop as I'd already slowed down to chat to the others .

When I got home and doing my stretches, the sweat was pouring out of me haha .

As I said , a bit like week 1 😁

Anyway, it's good to mix the runs up a bit !

Who knows what my next one will be , I don't ! 😁

The main thing is , enjoy your runs πŸ‘

It is great to mix up the runs and to do what instinctively feels right I think, and that was right this morning! Funny how we think of 3.5k as a short run, who would have thought it!

I am delaying until Friday, but I might not make it until then, as I am missing my run already. Muscle strain seems better, but I am being very careful.

I noticed when I walked one of my running routes with my son at the weekend that it was a bit muddy, so trail shoes have been ordered! I am excited to have 2 pairs of shoes - that's commitment!

Yes, mix and match πŸ˜πŸƒ

I know , 3.5 but it was still hard work to maintain pace 😐

I think your right to be cautious !

I certainly would if I felt anything again.

I also can't wait to try out my trail shoes 😬

Never saw Bowie in the early years, but went to one of the serious moonlight gigs.

That was the only time I ever saw him , amazing concert !

Sounds like a good one - mixing it up is definitely the way to go! And get you the experienced runner chatting to the beginners! I bet they were delighted with the encouragement.

Haha, I hope I managed to encourage them 😁

ha ha, well done with your 'short' run. I did 4K this morning trying to up my pace slightly and was absolutely boiling by the end - it's really quite muggy out there (but nice).

Fantastic! Love to hear you bumped into some people on week 1 I bet you were an inspiration to them. Looking forward to being where you are and switching up the runs. I feel like when this is over I'm going to want to chop and change a lot too :D x

Haha yes , I'm in Shropshire, as you say , right on the border between England and Wales .

I sometimes go for a walk along the canal towpath and into another country πŸ˜‚

So cool that you can pop into Wales.. I went to Herefordshire once and went to wales for lunch I thought it was pretty exciting 🀣 x

That’s great well done!

How lovely to chat to Week one runners and to be able to inspire them.

I am doing my first run of week eight today, enjoying this so much.

Ha! Listen to you caught up with them and then ran on! Bet you never imagined doing that when you started C25k - it’s just great isn’t it?

You are a professional runner these days! Look how far you’ve come πŸ‘

I bet those runners who you briefly caught up with were looking at you in awe thinking that will be us in a few months! πŸ‘

A 3.5k run with a nippy little pace! πŸ‘πŸ‘

Thank you Jane , yes it was nice not to be the newbie 😁

And the run was about pace if possible ,πŸ‘

Hope you are doing ok ??

I’m ok thanks... just working thru this work πŸ’©

I’m stretching and walking ... I upload to strava but private as it’s got my address on virtually! πŸ˜³πŸ™ˆπŸ€£

Instructor57Graduate in reply to Tinytears60

Oh dear , still work problems ☹️

Haha yes, I guess you need to be aware of security using strava .

Pleased your active now , hopefully running again soon ?

Tinytears60Graduate in reply to Instructor57

Don’t tempt me... I’ve come out today and deliberately NOT put my running g shoes on cos the pull is so great and I feel I’m a day or so away from that.. don’t want to undo all the good work I w done! πŸ™ˆπŸ€£

Of course !

Don't rush it for the sake of a few days πŸ‘

I was only thinking the same thing, this time last year 3.5k seemed like a distant dream, now it's a short run!

Mildly envious, never managed to see DB live, and 20-odd years of shift work (and it needs to be said, partners who didn't share my somewhat left field musical taste!) curtailed my attending live music events, just when I get to a stage where I can start going again, everything shuts down. My last gig was Gary Numan last October, had a few pencilled in for this year but sadly not to be.

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to Cp1965

Yes, it a shame about live events, I have had 2 postponed .

1 was the Australian pink Floyd show.

( I have also over the years seen pink Floyd 4 times !)

And the other was nick mason's (from pink Floyd) saucer full of secrets

Great to do a wee 'short' one after your 10k.

You obviously cant help the instructor coming out in you greeting the new c25kers πŸ˜πŸ‘.

Missed your post this morning - glad to see you're enjoying mixing it up a bit with that "short" 3.5k. I did my short run of week 1 of the magic plan yesterday - just 2.5k - and it felt like a bit of a cheat to be honest. Tomorrows run is supposed to be 5k. We will see....

I can't wait until I get to the stage where I'm overtaking other runners - not sure if that will ever happen though - but how lovely to have a chat and encourage them along. I remember a couple of times dog walkers telling me to "keep gong!" when I was on the plan. I reckon I must have looked like I was about to die! 😁

Instructor57Graduate in reply to Birdlady64

Yes, mixing it up stops me getting bored πŸ˜‚

Haha it was good catching then up , reminded me when I was overtaken once In the early weeks 😁

Only overtaken once? It still happens to me now 😁

Brilliant Instructor57!! Those are the best kind of runs!! Just going with how you feel! 🀩🀩!! I tend to do that (a lotπŸ₯΄!).

But...I’m getting used to the run/walk/run routine in my 10k plan. It has taken an adjustment of the mindset as I’d usually just choose to do a shorter run, but it’s actually very enjoyable. 😁

I agree with you, the main thing is to enjoy your run!! 🀩❀️

I actually like the sound of run walk intervals in a 10k plan ! πŸ‘

But yes , enjoyment is the most important ingredient 😁
