I have not posted for some time but I read the postings of others everyday as I receive a daily summary to my email account. I have been keeping up the running out three times a week, occasional lapses when I might only run a couple of times but mostly three times running about 6.5 Km each time. I have various courses I have worked out running on the local roads in the area where I live. Having different routes helps keep the runs fresh each time. My 5 Km time has always stayed around the 31m 20s to 32m even on days when I tried to beat it. Today I set off and just ran with no intention of trying to beat my PB time of 31m 17s for 5 K however when I was overtaken by a young lady at around the 4K mark this spurred me on a bit as she disappeared into the distance with each stride. I looked at my Garmin and thought I am doing pretty well today so I just pressed on at the pace I was doing. Got home and uploaded my run to Garmin connect and looked at the 1 K splits and eureka I have a new PB of 30 m 40 s for 5 Km not bad going and an early birthday present as I will be 64 in a couple of weeks’ time.
A PB this morning so very happy: I have not... - Couch to 5K
A PB this morning so very happy
Congratulations and Happy Early Birthday
Thanks tanyag_163 I bought some new Asics trainers in the Sweatshop clearance sale my Nike ones had started to wear level across the tread so these Asics will be a birthday present from my wife bless her.
Congratulations. we can all identify with that smug, self satisfied feeling of having achieved a new PB. If you really want to reduce your time further, I would thoroughly recommend parkrun, if you haven't tried it already. The timing and distance are pretty accurate and the tow effect of multiple runners always seems to bring out the competitor in us all.....in a nice way, of course.
Keep running, keep smiling.
Thanks Iannodatruffe there is a local parkrun in the town near to me but I haven't plucked up the courage to go yet, I am sure I would enjoy it but may wait until the wet weather is out of the way as it is three laps around a park and I know it gets very muddy this time of year.
That's a massive chunk off - fabulous! Congratulations!
Not too sure about the tags though..... ;-))
Hi dottiemay, thanks and yes I did notice the tags and thought wait a minute but the tags often make us smile
thats fantastic, well done you, and have a fabulous birthday

Thats great! Really good going, ! Its amazing how someone running past can spur you on! An excellent early birthday present

Well done! I couldn't help thinking what a shame she didn't overtake you at 3km, she might have motivated you to go sub-30 minutes! But that PB can't be too far in the future! An early Happy Birthday from me, too!
Thanks JohnBlake - looking at the 1 Km time splits I did do the faster 1 Km whilst she was ahead of me must be a subconscious thing that just kicks in. One day hopefully I will beat the 30 m mark whilst not realising I am doing it. It seems to work better that way for me.
