After 25 consolidation runs I finally managed a beauty of a 5k run. As I am excellent at slow-running ๐ข, I also managed to hit the 60min run target! โฐ And if that wasnโt enough, Runkeeper also gave me a personal best in largest elevation! โฐ
I might be ultra-slow, but boy was the run a beauty! I revisited my old route, had measured (thanks to Footpath app) 5k as looping my old C25k route twice, and then adding a different loop that I call the dog walk (as popular with dog walkers). ๐ ๐ถโโ๏ธ
I set the Runkeeper app for 2x15min Intervalls, because I wanted to psychologically give myself the flexibility of being able to chose to run on, rather than forcing me to run on.
First loop, despite running really slowly I hit the halfway bell so much further than ever before! My legs felt fantastic, so by the end of the first loop I knew I would try to smash that 5k ceiling of mine. I had twice run 60 min before, but was 600m short the first time, 300m short the next time.๐คฆ๐ฝโโ๏ธ
Second loop. By now I really knew all my preparations had paid off. My workouts, stretches, foam roller, all that must have contributed to my legs still feeling brilliant. No tension, rather a relaxed jogging.
My chosen music was my favourite German Band (โGanz schรถn feistโ), and half-way through the second loop came a song with perfect rhythm and perfect lyrics. (Itโs about a monkey having been trained by scientists to learn how to drive a car, and escaping into freedom to do a road trip! I know, silly ๐ but so funny! ๐คฃ)
So when that song came on and I was running down my (formerly titled) hill-of-doom, I was almost dance-running to the beat!
Last loop finished (after the nettle-avoiding slalom passage) and I was onto the dog walk, again feeling really ok ๐ and being so surprised ๐ฎ ๐ by this!
From dog walk , and now anxious that I didnโt quite have 5k, I did several tiny loops in my own garden, as I in panic tried to calculate my miles in Runkeeper into km! I had forgotten to change it to metric (due to RunLEJOG).
2 tiny loops in the garden, and I thought I should stop being so silly, itโs either enough or not! 5min cool down, and when finally I went into the house to do my stretches, and hit the stop and save button, what comes up first:
A NEW PERSONAL RECORD: 5k!!!!!
I did it! 25 runs after consolidation, I managed to hit the 5k! My time is double that of any other human being I know on here, but for me, this 5k is such a big achievement!
And as long as my runs are so enjoyable, who cares how long they take!!!!

Thanks! Yes! And thanks for the support for slow running! We tortoises ๐ข sometimes falter in our confidence, so this community really helps. ๐ ๐
Congratulations CBDB, a double celebration for you, your first 5k and you have ran for over 60 minutes, you are now entitled to get the words "60minGraduate" next to your username. ๐ ๐๐พ
Yes, tap or click onto the B210K forum on the Healthunlocked August graduation Home page and tell the administrators that you have ran for over 60 minutes.
Well done CBDB, thatโs worth a celebration! Donโt worry about your time; my average for 5k is anywhere from 46-52 minutes, we can only embrace our snailness! I did an 8k this morning in 80 minutes which mirrors my OGR standard running speed of 10 minutes per km! Well, calculating how long a run will take me is very easy! Happy running - and well done again!
Congratulations to you OGR on running an 8K today in 80 minutes, great run for you, I have not ran any more than a 5K since my ten miles run in July, in a few weeks time I intend to run a 8K again. ๐ ๐๐พ
Thanks Alan! Yes, I was quite pleased with it - slow but steady! Well done on your 10 miles - donโt think Iโll ever manage that (though you never know!). Enjoy your 8k when you get there!
Thanks! ๐ Slower! No, really? I think you are a bit faster than me ๐โบ๏ธ as far as I remember, you already have the first of those LEJOG postcards ... see you on LEJOG!
Of course you are! Discovering running is so important for us to have faith in our bodies. It benefits us in so many ways! I look forward to hearing about your future runs. I don't think I would be achieving so much without the support from forum members!
Yes. This forum community is really special! And discovering that I can run at my age and my fitness levels (and body shape) is an amazing revelation and I will do my best to not lose this ever again. Letโs run on!
Yes, thanks. Iโm already mingling in both forums. Have started RunLEJOG, and with that post on Bridge210k. But the 5k achievement and my consolidation runs really feel as if they belong to this forum!
Fantastic CBDB!! ๐๐๐! Music is so powerful on a run for me too. Thereโs nothing like a song coming on that you absolutely love!! ๐คฉ๐ฅฐ ๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ ๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ ๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ!!
Well done on your 5k!! Youโre so right, when you love what you do, it really doesnโt matter how you do it, as long as youโre happy you did!! And we know the answer to that!! ๐ ๐โค๏ธ
