Not posted for a few days and also not had chance to run so thought I'd revisit the University Campus to plan a 5K run I can do in the dark over the shorter evenings. Got lost last time and only did 3K but was armed with a map this time so better prepared. Also tried out my new compression socks (which were brilliant) and my fluorescent hooded running top (which would be brilliant if it was 10 to 15 degrees cooler but far, far too hot for me at the moment). All in all found an interesting route which will be well lit and hopefully cleared of leaves for the students and ideal for the winter nights.๐๐๐

Ive been thinking about winter routes for in the dark as well - it sounds like you have found a nice one. I think mine will end up being along the roads. Running through the woods in the dark probably isn't the most sensible thing to do.
Compression socks ๐ค Iโve been thinking of getting some compression running tights/leggings, just looking for the right place to get them from. And Iโve ordered a chest torch. I donโt think Iโd get on very well with a head torch. Already have a new windproof/waterproof running jacket, a beanie hat and gloves. And now I have some photography work to pay for essential running goodies!
I reckon summer's gone. Just had a few days away in Derbyshire and felt like Novemberโน๏ธ Did manage a 15K walk on the Monsal Trail but alas had no time for any running. Not heard of a chest torch. I use a head torch a lot for work and I swear by mine so maybe take that out in the winter. Main problem I've had in the past is avoiding things hidden in piles of leaves and puddles as not good turning an ankle over or even worse coming a cropper on your own...โน๏ธ
I use a chest light during the winter Jools (I run after work during the week) and I absolutely love mine. ๐ฆ๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ Head torches are very popular but I really don't like wearing them! Picked mine up from Decathalon a few years ago but I think they still do similar. Good luck with yours - let us know what you think! ๐
I worry every time I go out running. If anything happened to me, nobody would know. Iโll let you know how I get on with the chest torch! Looks like a harness with a light in the middle. I think itโs got a light on the back of the strap as well.

I always take my mobile with me as a backup but will try to run in daylight if possible. Depends on my work though so can't always guarantee it. I used to help out with my daughter's old running club over the winter but I used to cycle round and not run. But some of the kids used to come a cropper from time to time but fortunately nothing too serious โน๏ธ
Funnily enough 3 months ago I would have said the same about 15K. I'd put on weight and not been walking as much as I used to and then came along C25K!!๐ Did the walk no problem and even thought I could have done a quick 5K jog at the end๐๐ Amazing how much fitter I feel now thanks to this program๐
I feel much fitter, too! Cant believe the Increase in energy; but I still get out of breath more when walking than running slowly! Hell, I can run for 1hr 25 mins and be hardly out of breath - but go out on a brisk walk and Iโm puffing and blowing after 20 minutes. Certainly couldnโt go out on a jog after walking ๐
Mostly zone 2 with a smattering of 3 and 4. Max heart rate on a 5K walk was 145, but mostly itโs less than that. Itโs possible that brisk walking sets off my (Mild) asthma.
Maybe your breathing differently. Shallow breathing just expanding rib cage with walking but deeper belly breathing and dropping diaphragm with running?? Are you chatting when you're walking ??๐
Yes! Thatโs it. Continual chatter, I usually walk with my neighbour and I have lots to tell her at the moment, so itโs also stressful. Just hadnโt put 2 and 2 together. That explains it all ๐
