Failed w5 r3

I haven’t trained since Tuesday due to being away and I procrastinated all morning about going to the gym to do this run. After 5 minutes running my calves were so sore (did a lot of walking whilst away) so I gave up. I’m going to try again on the roads tomorrow morning.

Good luck. Much easier on roads If you feel you can't go on just slow down and keep plodding!

I did my run today, almost forcing myself and lost the buzz I feel after completing it. I’m already psyching myself up for Tuesdays run.

Don’t be too hard on yourself. Try again on Tomorrow or Tuesday x

Don't run tomorrow. You ran today and it hurt. Give yourself a rest day.

Don’t be hard on yourself! I agree with nowster, wait another day so you don’t do yourself any damage and then try it! W5R3 is a real milestone run so it’s worth making sure you’re well rested and well hydrated. You can totally do it!!

I agree with nowster, give yourself tomorrow off from running, let those calves recover a bit and try outside on Tuesday or pick some slower tunes for the treadmill to keep that pace down. It's really easy on a treadmill to push harder than we realise and the key to this run in particular is slow and steady 👍🏻

I think it bears repeating what nowster and GoGo_JoJo have said - have a day off tomorrow and try on Tuesday. If your legs were sore today, running tomorrow is ill-advised. Start fresh on Tuesday. You’ll be rested and you’ll finish the run. Good Luck on Tuesday 😉

Also, the run wasn’t a fail. It would have been a fail if you hadn’t tried but you did. Be kinder to yourself.

Oh and that's not a failure, failure would have been not even turning up to try.

Count it as a practice run and move on! 😉

There are no bad runs, only ones you didn't enjoy at the time.

Even those serve to teach us something. 👍🏻😁

Great feedback guys, thank you. My calves have been an issue since I started and usually they ease of as I run but knowing this was a 20 minute run I gave up. My head just wasn’t up for it today but I put pressure on myself to do it due to home/work/time commitments x

Also, I run really slowly on the treadmill. My speed was 4.5 and the guy on the next treadmill was walking at 4.1!

What's that? Miles per hour? If so, that's a really fast walk speed.

Yeah it was. I tried not to let it put me off, I know I’m slow but if I go faster I can’t control my breathing as well as if I slow done a bit

4.1mph is equivalent to 9.1 minutes/km. My longshanks brisk walk pace is closer to 10min/km, and I'm no slouch!

Not a failed run Nictrip, class it as a practice run. If you want two great You Tube motivational video that I use all the time before I go out, check out the links on my Jump leads post and Bed to 5k 💪🏻 they’ll get you going, next run you’ll smash it 👍

The rest day is an important part of the programme. If you have run, you really need a day off.

Then you’ll make it for sure. 🙂
