Yippeee, managed my first 10km run this morning, after eleven months of consolidation running since completing C25K. Still can’t really believe I have just run non-stop for 70 mins and 31 seconds, when last July I struggled to run for 60 seconds !!!
Didn’t set out to run 10km, in fact I went out feeling quite guilty this morning as I hadn’t run for a week, despite being on a home-staycation last week, I somehow didn’t find the time to run. I therefore thought this mornings run was going to be hard, but once I got going, it felt like the opposite, almost like my body was saying “at last a run, this is what we have needed all week”, next I will be telling myself I enjoy running !!
Once I realised this mornings run was going to be OK, I slowed down as first KM far too quick as always and decided I would just run until I was tired. 5 km seemed to come round quite quickly so I thought I would see if I could match my previous best of 8 km, which also seemed to come round relatively quickly, by which time I thought I would see how close to 10km I could get. Once I hit 9km there was no way I was going to stop, however the last KM was the hardest as the muscles in my left leg started to stiffen a little, so I just slowed right down, gritted my teeth and made the last KM.
Certainly very pleased with myself this morning, as i never thought I would complete C25K and run 5km, never mind run 10km. For everyone on their own C25K journey I hope this post inspires you to push onwards as anything is possible if you keeping putting one foot in front of the other !!
