Ouch!, I always wear running socks (Hilly socklets) but they still are above my trainer line. For now I suggest compeed blister plasters. I can't say I have had to break in new trainers maybe a bit of a walk in them first, other than that just a 4 or 5 k run has been enough.
Heel lock lacing is definitely the way to go. I just got new shoes and the man in the running shop showed me how to lace up to stop them slipping on the heel.
The technique uses those spare top holes on your shoes that you always wondered why they were there.
If you Google I'm sure you will find a video that shows you how
If you're getting blisters on your heels you're probably over-striding and landing on your heels rather than the whole foot. Shoes are most probably not the fix.
A quick fix is the hiker's trick of wearing a thin pair of socks under a thicker pair. This reduces the rubbing.
In the longer term, you'll want to adapt your stride so your foot lands beneath your centre of gravity, on the whole foot, not the heel. This will also help your knees and hips as it reduces the jolt through the bones. Your calf muscles will probably complain about this as they have to work harder.
Some background: I wear "barefoot" shoes and have done for over eight years. They are unforgiving of having a poor gait: no padding and zero drop. After eight and change weeks of regular running I'm developing a nice pair of calluses on the forefoot and heel of each foot. This is a natural adaptation.
Ooo, that looks really sore, hope they heal up pretty quickly. I see someone else recommended Compeed plasters. Also well done in completing under these circumstances and good time too.
