Consolidation run 2 - struggles!

Does anyone else a slightly nervous feeling just before they’re going out for a run and need the toilet about five time’s, or is that just me?! 😂 went for my post run 2 this evening. It wasn’t too bad, I had to stop twice to walk a bit, which is slightly frustrating! I’m determined to stop that little bit of walking. Can’t decide if I’m giving in too easily to the breathing struggles and the feeling of running through sand, or if it’s because I don’t have Jo in my ear motivating me to power on through...

I do this kind of avoidance thing for about 15 minutes before I go!! I feed the cat, put the bin out whatever 🤷🏻‍♀️🙄

I found the first few runs without Jo weird & missed her chatting along to me. I did a week 9 run again just to hear her voice 🤣 but now I feel comfortable just cracking on! It will come 👍🏻

Ha, I don’t know what it is but I go to the loo about five times! 🤣 Yeh I don’t mind not having Jo, it’s fine, I listen to music and run along. I’ve come to realise that maybe, just possibly, I’m expecting too much too soon..

Thinking about it, maybe I’m expecting too much too soon, when we only really do a full 30 minute run for just the final week of C25K..

I think the fact we’ve made it is fab!! We can continue on our journeys and Jo or no Jo we can continue doing it 💪🏼

I still get an anxious feeling before I go out Issywhizz good laxative too.... TMI 😜 if you miss Jo’s reassurance, try Coach Bennett on the Nike Run Club app, very upbeat and encouraging 👍

Oooo thank you, I will give that a go on my next run. I’ve already downloaded that nike run app, I just haven’t used it yet. Good shout 👍🏻💪🏻🏃‍♀️

I’d be interested to know how you get on, I found it really good and there’s a good choice of runs, plus it stores your time on the distance ones under achievements 👍

Great thank you! I’ll let you know how it goes

I always feel apprehensive before I run , often go to the loo again just to make sure 😂

You mention breathing problems, don't forget the basics , run at a conversational pace 😁👍

You’ve got a loo Gremlin 👺🚽 too! 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah, I think it's just apprehension 😂

(Or the fact I forgot I'd already been 😂)

If you are struggling with breathing then slow down and if you can just relax it will all become much more enjoyable.

Issywhizz profile image
IssywhizzGraduate in reply to IannodaTruffe

Not so much struggling with breathing but just out of breath every now and then. To be honest, I couldn’t run any slower as I’d be walking.. i’m quite slow already 😊

IannodaTruffe profile image
IannodaTruffeMentor in reply to Issywhizz

Say this sentence out loud to yourself "Am I going slow enough to enable me to speak this sentence in one breath?" If you cannot, you are going too fast.

These posts were so useful when I started as I realised that feeling self conscious, nervous, procrastination - all were completely the norm, and how tough it is, but you get through that and all so worth it. Then you start to feel real changes, I still get nervous before a run, but it has no correlation to how well the run often goes. It is really hot out here at the moment and yet some of my best runs, ones I started feeling quite ropey! I have been doing this since early March and feeling this could be the norm. Good luck and keep going. Recording everything on Strava has really helped too.

IssywhizzGraduate in reply to BexHD

Thanks! Yeh I record on Strava too, it’s great for keeping track of your progress. How far are you running now? Are you running every other day? I’ve had a slight break from the running, dipping in and out, due to a house move but am trying to get back into running every other day. At the moment I just want to get to that point of running the 5k without having to stop for a short walk 😊

BexHD profile image
BexHDGraduate in reply to Issywhizz

A house move, that is never easy, and so difficult to fit anything else in. I am now being strict with my runs, every other day finally, I used to have to wait an extra day. I am 50 so have had to be careful as my body has never been used to running, even when I was younger! Now running over 6k and 35-40 mins and feeling fine. And putting HIIT in between each run so feel I might get to the stage soon where I could run every day. No aches or pains at all, just looking rather like a beetroot. Hope that helps...

Oh yes I am totally with you I graduated about 18 months ago and still have that feeling..go to the loo at least twice!🙈 but when I used to gig row I was exactly the same, would be forever on the loo especially before a big race!

It’s all good though, still love running and the feeling of freedom just me and the road! 😁

Issywhizz profile image
IssywhizzGraduate in reply to Gem2844

Ha yes it’s funny isn’t it, it’s just that two minute feeling before getting out there. Love the freedom of the running too, it’s great 💪🏻😊🏃‍♀️ How far are you managing to run post graduating 18 months ago?

You are not alone, I too feel nervous. In the early days it affected my sleep the night before too. I couldn’t work out if it was fear or excitement. I think it’s a bit of both. Happy running 🏃🏻‍♀️

Well I have 2 little ones the youngest is 2 and a half so routine of running at the minute is tricky, try to get out at least 2x a week and generally run about 3 miles sometimes more sometimes less, yesterday did 3.6 miles. The most so far is just over 5. I do it for staying trim, fitness and to have some time to myself!😉

Issywhizz profile image
IssywhizzGraduate in reply to Gem2844

I have a 2 year old too, same as you, I try to get out when I can. It’s good to hear others experiences though, gives inspiration 😊🏃‍♀️👍🏻

Gem2844 profile image

I used to put real pressure on myself to do more and run further but I just do what I can now and when I can and enjoy it for what it is! I will never be fast or a marathon runner but it’s not about that for me, everyone is different and has different goals, I just enjoy what I do 😁

Better to go before you leave, I had a few close calls and am more nervous if I haven't been, worrying that I will have to rush back.

Brunsamarathon profile image

I totally get this now. I have been struggling to get out for a run and when I do I find all sorts of things to do before I go lol! I wanted to go this morning but talked myself out of it! Those gremlins are strong at the moment 🙄🤣🙈

Issywhizz profile image
IssywhizzGraduate in reply to Brunsamarathon

Noooo but you’ve been so good!! Don’t let those gremlins get the better of you. I guess we all have times like that and you will rid of them soon. Maybe your body just needs the rest? It’s hard fitting everything in now isn’t it, with normal life semi resuming..

Brunsamarathon profile image
BrunsamarathonGraduate in reply to Issywhizz

I think that's what it is. Running was the focus through lockdown and now the new norm is kicking in lol! The gremlins will be kicked into touch soon no doubt 🤞🏃‍♂️😎

Issywhizz profile image
IssywhizzGraduate in reply to Brunsamarathon

You’ll find your new norm, I’m sure. In the meantime have a little rest and slowly get back out there. As long as you can get out once a week for now, at least that’s better than nothing at all and losing all what you’ve built up 💪🏻🏃‍♀️

Brunsamarathon profile image
BrunsamarathonGraduate in reply to Issywhizz

I will, thanks 😊

Glad to see you've got back into it. I should think we all have little blips along the way lol x

Sounds like Tinytears60 🚽 👺 has found you! 🤭 Try C25K+ podcasts (Stepping Stone, Speed and Stamina) if you are missing your ear worms for guidance. Laura will keep you on track and remind you to breathe properly 😉

Hello!

I suffer from the exact same thing! Absolutely no idea why! My routine seems to be toilet, get ready, toilet, stretch out, toilet and out for a run. It’s almost like my body knows something 😂

Regarding consolidation runs - I repeated the final C25K run so many times so as I had that motivation in my ear to keep going. I have completed 2 with “the help” but it’s not the same.

Yes!!! I get this only the mornings I run. It's not procrastination but maybe nervous tummy (even though I don't feel anxious particularly??) about 5 times before I feel safe to leave the house 😁. I've been out the door locking up and had to rush back in even. Weird!

Diamondshoes profile image

Oh, I thought it was just me! I don't know whether it's an avoidance tactic or what!

Hedgehogs123 profile image

I used to struggle with my breathing and am still not good at pacing myself. But the consolidation podcasts with Jo really help and I'm being told to just breath naturally and not think too much about it and that helps. And yes, always feel like I need the loo both before and after my runs!!

Issywhizz profile image
IssywhizzGraduate in reply to Hedgehogs123

Where are the consolidation podcasts with Jo, is that the stepping stones one? 😊💪🏻

Hedgehogs123 profile image

hi sorry for the late reply, yes they are the stepping stones ones. I can't remember where I downloaded them from but apparently you can download from the Audio fuels website too.
