I completed last weeks 20 minute run of W5 and felt I could carry on easily. So on Sunday, on the treadmill because the weather was damp, I ran for 30 minutes, but only 3.6km. It was really hard work and then I discovered through google that the treadmill had an incline of around 8 - 9% (no adjustment). Which means I was running uphill all the time. I alterered it to 2% and today ran for 30 min and acheived 4.7km . I know I ran slower at the beginning for a short time, 7.5kph and need to be up above 9 so can easily take that up next time on wednesday. Then I'll try it outside on Friday. I've just realised I typed EASILY, wow, I think I meant it too . Happy happy bunny
Second 30 minute run : >): I completed last... - Couch to 5K
Second 30 minute run : >)
It's advisable to stick to the programme and not try and do too much too soon, to avoid injury. Happy running πββοΈπ
Even though you're probably capable of it, I'd strongly suggest keeping to the times in the C25K programme. Too much too soon could result in injury.
So you have stopped following the plan then?
We are all capable of doing way more than our bodies are conditioned to do, but not without increasing our injury risk. Sticking to gently progressive training plans is the safest way to push our limits, whilst gently increasing our resistance to injury.
Take care.
The plan has worked better than I thought it would, it got me up and going like I've never thought I could. Then it stepped up in w5 from 8 minutes without stopping, to a 20 minute run on R3, that is a massive 250% jump in run time. To me, that was the biggest risk, taking that massive step. So I thought there's no problem in stepping it up further next time, but only if it felt right. If I can run for 20, then I can run for 30. So it did feel right, but I only went up by 50%. This takes me to 30 minutes run time. I didn't realise that doing better than I was supposed to be doing at this stage would cause any negative comments. So since I'm not following the regime of C25K, I won't post here any more
