Hi I’m currently just completed first run of week 7 and don’t seem to be getting the “high” feelings at end of runs and worried I’m going too slow ! I figure as long as feet keep moving I’m doing ok ....
Need reassurance : Hi I’m currently just... - Couch to 5K
Need reassurance
I'm also in w7
I definitely don't feel amazing just finishing my runs!! More like tired, hot, and wanting to sit down haha. I think this is normal. Also the week we're only just beginning to experiment the longer runs with no walking breaks - which of course is demanding!
As for running too slow - I don't think you can! I would definitely ignore your he'd in these situations, and instead recognise that you're now running for 25 minutes!! Which is an amazing accomplishment. Maybe look bak to see how far you've come? Ultimately you're 7 weeks into running - you have all the future weeks to build up pace and endurance
I live in an area with a lot of very competent runners .. I shall keep my head down concentrate on breathing and finishing and be proud of myself then and forget about others whizzing on past haha
You are definitely doing ok, I’ve been known to punch the air on finishing a run, but I have never felt ‘high’. I’m also running slowly. Just keep going that’s the main thing!
Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.
This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.
Not everyone gets a buzz from running........not everyone enjoys pushing themselves physically, but more people discover enjoyment in their running by slowing down than by speeding up.
Can you speak aloud, clear, ungasping sentences as you run?.........if not, you are going too fast.
Enjoy your journey.
I completed the c25k about two weeks ago and still don’t experience any “highs” but there is some satisfaction when I look back and see how far I have come. I really notice now that recovery time is very much shorter after runs. Being a typical man I can measure this on my watch. Another benefit is that my balance has greatly improved. Putting on socks whilst standing up is much less risky than before! Don’t laugh it’s an age thing.
Yesterday when running my usual quiet route along the top of the dunes I spotted something in my peripheral vision on a curving path and closing. He joined my path just in front but honestly he was like the roadrunner. Didn’t say “beep-beep” but may as well have done.
Just run at your own pace, justified smugness is less than three weeks away and many benefits await.
I watched a short video on 'slow jogging' and it def is a really beneficial thing! I hated my wk6 run3 (25mins). Found it impossibly hard, hated it and for the first time felt flat and depressed! Went out last night to do wk7 run1, changed my route, slowed it down and it was sooo much better! Weird! My mojo is back and Im looking forward again to the next one. There seems no rhyme or reason, but trust in yourself and keep going. Your mojo will return.....I have found running in the cooler evenings is better for me xx
