After recovering from a shin splint, Ive finally got back into the groove of running again this week...and somehow have managed to do two 5k’s!! I’m really not sure how that’s happened but here we are🤣 I absolutely hate the heat! I’d take running in the snow over this!😩😂 It actually started to rain on my run today but even the rain was hot!!
How is everyone else managing with their runs this week?🥵😩

The hot weather is to last a bit longer, probably into next week but it maybe a little less hot in the south east of England, 30/33C, rather than the 35/36C of recent days, o how we long for cooler Atlantic air, not just yet, as far as running, just drink plenty of water to keep hydrated, don't run any more than 10K and run first thing in the morning to avoid the heat of later in the day.
Where are you? I hate the heat in the UK. It’s awful. Not like abroad when it’s dry heat and there’s AC and a pool. I used to hate summer running but I’ve been better this year. The best running temp is upper single digits 👍🏽🤣 with rain.
Lancashire! Isn’t it just, the humidity over here is horrible😩never had so many cold showers in my life as I have this week🤣oh how I wish I had a pool and AC😩It deffo is haha! Give me rain and gale force winds over this any day🤣
I have to confess I haven't run at all this week. The heat completely wipes me out. 🥵🥵 I am really missing it. Im heading to cooler climes next week and the running kit is coming with me
Im glad its not just me i flaked out of week 8 this week because the heat just makes me give up so quickly 🤦🏽♀️. Cant wait to get back on it when its cooler 💪🏽
I normally refuse to run in the heat, but with having some time off with shin splints I didn’t want to leave it another week without running, so have just had to grin and bear it😩
am out of the house before 6am. If I left it any later I wouldn’t be able to run. It will definitely be a better experience running when it’s less hot and humid. Let’s hope it cools down soon.
Well I'm afraid I chickened out on Weds as yemp was SO unbearable even first thing. I started out on Monday at 6am but only managed just under 3km! Felt really queasy despite being well hydrated. Temp was already around 29C! Saw people running yesterday at midday- 35C!!! I'm going to wait a few days till the humidity drops. Have been focusing on yoga!
I also go early, and that usually helps to avoid the heat. I had intended to go this morning.... but was awake most of the night with the storms and the humidity. That's two nights in row of no real sleep to speak of.... hoping that I will have a good night's rest tonight out of sheer exhaustion ... and will get out early on my first consolidation run tomorrow.
Thank you!!😃Oh I know how you feel, I’ve hardly slept the part 2 nights too!! Was nearly falling asleep at work this morning😩All the best for your first consolidation run!😃
I tried running on Monday but didn’t get beyond half way and I haven’t tried since. The heat and lack of sleep this week have just knocked me for six. I’m aiming to go out early tomorrow morning. I’m on week 8. Should I just pick up where I left off or repeat week 7?
it’s awful isn’t it! It’s the lack of sleep that’s getting me!😩 I’d say just pick up where you left off! Before this week, I had only ran once in 2 weeks due to shin splints. I picked it back up this week and have managed 2 5Ks! So your fitness shouldn’t be affected at all!x
Well done for getting out for runs and finishing two 5ks. I skipped every single run since the heat wave started. No running at all! nada! I just can't do it when it's too hot. I alse prefer winter runs. I don't even mind the dark as it helps me to just switch off when I don't see much.
Instead, this week I enjoyed some 'cross training' : cycling as well as a few sea swims. I'll run again next week when it will be cooler.
Im exactly the same totally skipped week 8 haha but not beating myself up about it and just going to wait till its cooler. After all you don't want to feel exhausted straight away just because of the heat
I normally would never run in the heat, but with having only ran once in two weeks due to an injury I didn’t want to take another week off!😩 I much prefer winter runs too!
Badly in my case so much so that I've been checking the weather forecast to see when it's going to cool down. I think you've done brilliantly to have run 5k in this heat as I just cannot do it! Next run is Saturday so think it will be cooler then. Have managed small bursts of 20 mins and 10 mins and getting worried 😯
Oh no☹️I’m not good in the heat at all so I’m not sure how I’ve done it to be honest haha- I guess running later at night has helped! You’ll be fine😊as soon as this weather cools down you’ll be straight back on it I’m sure!!😃
Well done with your 5ks! You’re doing so well!! I’m with you on the snow option! I’ve been out once this week, it was really too hot yesterday for run #2 so going to try again tomorrow morning. I was looking at the temperature yesterday evening and even at midnight it would have been too hot! Don’t fancy running in the dark either😂
Thank you!! It’s nice to hear from you! Yesterday was horrendous!! It’s cooled down a lot today where I am, there’s a lovely breeze!😊 It seemed to get hotter and hotter the later it hit last night..it was a strange one!😂
Here was I feeling guilty because I skipped a day after suffering in the heat on Monday. Went out today at 5:40am just to avoid the heat as much as possible. So glad I don't live in the south-east any more. Roll on real British weather!!
All I can say is that it was slightly cooler but no less humid. I'm in the East Midlands so it's not as hot here as elsewhere. Still way too hot for me though - especially running. I did it though but took two hours before I wasn't beetroot colour!!
Remember the three S's. to avoid shin splints ....change your Surface, Shoes , and Speed....do not run on your toes....have a couple pairs of shoes and watch your surface....Blue Skies,
Thank you for that!😊 So far this week my shins are all good, the time off to recover has done me good😊 I have changed route to, so completely different surface which I think is helping!
Ditto, I've been going early too, which I really begrudge when it's not a work day...hating running in the heat! I'd take any other weather over this (except when it's icy, only time I don't run, I prefer my limbs unbroken 😉).
Well done on your 5K's, I'm praying for cool rain this weekend for my long run 🙏🌧🌬
I have just driven past a guy running with a waterproof on top of his t-shirt (must be way too hot for that) Sunshine and a few degrees cooler would be nice.
download the Navy Seals training or Ranger.....be careful you are not chanting too loud with your ear pods in...I did and once more the neighbors knew I was a nut case....Blue Skies
