W2R2!

Two weeks ago I was laid on the couch with an ice cream watching something I can’t remember on the box, now here I am drenched in sweat, aching feet, a slight pain in my thigh/crotch. I know which I’d rather be doing but I also know that what I’m doing is the right thing for me but why does it have to be so hard, my last run was fine. Woohoo, looking forward to Thursday.......

I was the same as you 16 weeks ago! Other than an occasional leisurely walk, I just didn’t do exercise- it wasn’t for me.

I graduated six weeks ago and I am presently running (rather slowly) for about35 minutes three times a week. I can’t honestly say that I love it but I feel so much better and I am quietly rather proud of myself.

Keep at it -it is really worth it. Well done on what you have achieved.

Just done W2r2 and I am really getting to enjoy it. Just keep going is my mantra on the way round - that and chasing my doggie training partner lol. Good luck tomorrow.

Thank you, I didn’t start off with a positive attitude but I’ll try harder tomorrow. Well done you on you’re progress, we’ll get there!

Thank you. It’s amazing to me that I’m even thinking about running - but I’m really chuffed with myself when I get it done. As Jo says keep thinking I love running hahahahaha

Yeah I don’t get that, loving running it’s just odd. Mind I used to like it when I was 14 and it was only 40 years ago.

Well done! You nailed it!

I did my W2R2 this morning. It's been easier this week but still sweaty at the end which is a good thing yes? Having my music on helps the time pass. Not seen any reduction on the scales yet, but it's early days. I didn't put all this weight on in 2 weeks so don't see why I would lose it in 2 weeks. Doing WW at the same time. Have to say I'm more alert, and feel less tired on my run days so it's probably having a good effect on my general wellbeing, and am I wrong to think my skin looks clearer?? Next run Friday,.

No and it’s a funny thing about weight gain it just seems to creep up in you. Well done on your run, I’m doing my last run this week tomorrow

Amazing!

It could be the heat and humidity? I’ve loved all of the weeks so far, up until week 4 today, horrible run. If every run was like that I probably wouldn’t have got this far!

I’m not sure if that encouraging but it was at least truthful, maybe it was the heat but someone said something that made me think. You need a positive attitude when you leave the house for a run, I didn’t, I was tired and aching from work, I felt it was a chore.

So tomorrow I’ll try to have a positive attitude and smash it!

in reply to Jcksam

I didn’t quite word it right, and it was more in response to your reply further up, which I completely misread and thought you said you loved running 🤣 But now I see you don’t get the loving running. Have you enjoyed any of it so far? Do you think maybe you’re going too fast? Are you wearing the right kind of footwear and landing correctly on your feet? I do think anyone would have struggled today in the heat though too.

I tried this 2 years ago on a treadmill, ended up with shin splints and hated every minute of it so I gave up. This time I’m trying to do it properly and I have been really enjoying it up until today. Slowing down my pace being the one main thing I’ve changed.

I think maybe my pace might have been to high, last week I was jogging in and industrial estate so I wasn’t seen but this week I’ve been in the town so maybe I am going quicker. Actually I’m I might be doing everything wrong but then Sunday’s run (W2R1) was fine better than the previous one. I think it had a lot to do with my mental attitude and maybe hydration?

I’ve heard about them but what are shin splints?

in reply to Jcksam

That could well be why, if you did run faster without realising, today I spotted someone walking towards me and automatically went into the first run too fast, I’m far too self conscious so it threw me and I wasn’t concentrating on what I was doing. Can you breath okay without gasping while you’re running?

I don’t know if you’ve been shown this link when you signed up, but it’s invaluable to read. It covers pretty much everything to getting started and there’s a section on how fast or rather how slow you should be running. I found it really helpful. healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Shin splints, I can’t tell you why it happened Or the medical reasons behind it, I think it’s something to do with landing wrong or on the heel of the foot, too hard etc and results in really painful shins! I couldn’t get rid of them for weeks.

Thanks I’ll look at that, I might have seen it but it won’t harm looking again.

Also on W2R2, with R3 tomorrow. Apart from W1R1 I now leave the house each time looking forward to the run. I go straight from getting up (and getting dressed!) round our local park. It's cool at that time (6.40ish) and the other people I see are also exercising or dog walking. I love the feeling of achievement I get when I finish. No weight loss yet, but I do have more energy generally (except in this heat!) Looking forward to W3 but nervous about going up to 3 min runs! Oh and I also get aches in the place between thigh and hip (inner thigh) It usually goes though after the run. Good stretching helps.

You sound like you’re in a good place with you’re running, I hope I can keep up with you!

I'm surprising myself, having hated it at school and refusing to go with my husband on his weekly training runs. Maybe the fast walking laps I did in lockdown to stay sane are reaping rewards now? By all accounts we all meet a mental/physical block at some stage, I'm expecting mine soon!

Jcksam in reply to Blondefox

Oh no a positive mental attitude I think is required and if I have a bad run next time I’ll just hit the Gin!!!

Good plan, (don't hate me for this!) but I'm on just tonic now. Thought giving up alcohol was easier than giving up snacking! FeverTree Clementine preferred with ice and orange slice. Still haven't lost any weight though.....
