Hi my first post here. Decided to start C25K while on holiday in rural France. Mostly because I hate drawing attention to myself and didnt want to subject my neighbours to my shambling attemots at running. Doing it on holiday has been bliss. No people and no traffic. I do ny last week 2 run tomorrow then its back to reality and i really am apprehensive about running in my local town. Its very busy with people and traffic and also quite hilly. Would doing this programme on the treadmill at the gym work. Does anyone else do this?
W2R2 but back to the real world: Hi my first... - Couch to 5K
W2R2 but back to the real world
I’ve completed W1 to W7 on the treadmill now. I hate running outside and don’t get to the gym until 11:30pm and it works absolutely fine for me! Good luck!
Running on a treadmill is generally considered easier than running outdoors, as it gives you "perfect" conditions. The standard recommendation seems to be to set the treadmill to a 1% incline, which compensates for this. But loads of people do it on the treadmill.
If you would rather continue to run outside, do you have a local park or tow-path that would avoid people and traffic? I'm in inner-city London but I do have somewhere I can run without bumping into people or traffic (conveniently, it's exactly 5mins' brisk walk from my flat to the park, too, so I use my warm-up walk to get there!). Though you mention you live somewhere hilly so perhaps it's not that simple.
You can indeed do the program on the treadmill if that suits you but don't be put off from running outside
We all felt like we would stand out and be ridiculed, laughed at etc but in all honesty people are to busy going about their own lives..
It does take time to build up our confidence but really don't worry. If you can find somewhere like a park. A tow path or run at a time when less people are about..
Either way it is about you and what suits you and progressing through the program.. so well done on your progress so far.. keep going 😁
Doing it in the gym is fine. I drove out of town for my runs early on and I still do for some of them.
Thanks for the advice everyone. Think I will try a mix of treadmill and outdoor running
