So I was looking forward to today as I had an appointment to get my running gait analysed to buy running shoes. I’m on week 7 and have been running in a v old pair of Clark’s trainers.
How disappointing I wasn’t confident on treadmill and she said
“is THAT you running”
Asked me to bring shoes I was running g in but didn’t look at them.
Looked about 10 years old.
No comment on my gait then brought out 2 pairs of shoes.
Left me to decide between them.
When I asked her if the brooks were the definitive running shoes she asked me what that meant and I had to give her a little English lesson.
Bought the brooks at £120 but can’t help thinking I was taken for a ride.

To be honest I'd take them back, book a proper gait assessment, with a full explanation with the manager and start again. If they weren't happy I'd ask for a refund and go elsewhere. £120 is £120 and complete waste if the shoes aren't suitable for you.
That’s awful, and put me off of ever going to get mine checked ☹️ I would have been tempted to walk out. I’d look at raising this through a message on their social media platform. I doubt the manager of the shop would be impressed.
I wouldn't wear them , phone them up and complain to the manager .
My experience at 'Up & Running' was just the opposite, very knowledgeable, very helpful, explaned my gait analysis with me , and brought me lots of different shoes to try , even told me to bring them back after running in them if I was not 100% happy.
Similarly, I haven't had gait analysis. There is a local chiropodists/podiatrists which offers it, but I've only ever used their services for a verruca.
If my gait is wrong, because of the type of shoes I wear, my body will very quickly tell me if I'm running badly. There's 3mm of rubber, 2mm of insole and 1 mm of sock between my sole and the ground, and they weigh 145g each.
I personally wouldn’t wear and return. I wouldn’t be confident that you have the right shoes..... there’s usually a lot of discussion, show and tell and making sure you have a comfortable fit!
What you described is not a gait analysis .... I’ve had this happen to me once , bought a pair of ASICS neutral (recommended) And ended up with all sorts of leg injuries... went to a runners need and got a proper assessment and required stability shoes which resolved my problem..
I say take them back to be sure before your £120 goes down the drain. You might want to try a different store just see what they recommend.
It’s a hassle but worth making absolutely sure... sorry you’ve had this experience.
How awful for you! I had my gait analysis done at PB Running- it couldn’t have been different to your experience! The girl who did it was admittedly very young but she knew what she was talking about. She brought out about 6/7 pairs for me to try, didn’t influence me in any way, gave me loads of tips on improving the way I run to make it more efficient and easier on my joints & emailed me all of the screen prints etc(not that it means an awful lot to me- I just wanted to know I had the right pair of trainers!😂) I also bought a pair for£120 and they are worth it. I think you would be right to go back if you feel you didn’t get the service you should have had. Good luck x
Ha ha taken for a run more like, Brooks are fab plus you can try them for 90 days and return them if not happy,
I had a bad or inaccurate gait analysis done in February, great shoes but was getting pains and numbness in left foot, had analysis done again by different person who gave me a pair of neutral shoes to wear for the analysis which they're supposed to do apparently, did they do this with you?
No more numbness or pain and a tad quicker, Brooks usually have the last model number on sale for around £80, shops often only have the old models but full price so check out Brooks online.
Week 7 week done keep it up, if your new shoes don't put a smile on your face then they're the wrong ones
That is dreadful ! Take them back and go elsewhere.
I went to Up & Running today ... I had gait analysis, showed me what they were looking at, explained it clearly ... recommended a number of shoes at a range of prices and let me try and test each one on the treadmill ... the assistant even remarked that my existing pair would be good for a while yet if I wanted to stick with them instead.
£120 is a lot of money ... especially if they aren’t right ... agree with comments here, return them as you were not satisfied.
That's awful!😠 Definitely return them and ask to speak to the manager, make a complaint. I was in a Run4It store today for the second time in a week (I tried some, was advised to try them at home and return them if not 100% which I did and they were super helpful). I'm sorry you've had this experience, maybe that sales assistant needs some training on giving professional service).
Brooks are good running shoes with v good support. I know what you mean, i was v disappointed by my gait analysis too. 10 secs on the treadmill nothing more...
Have to say I had a similar experience at Runners Need although asst wasn’t quite as useless but result same. No info re gait and £120 later a pair of Brooks
I’ve gait assessments at Runners Needs I initially thought it was a waste of time. Had to watch the video, things were explained about my gait then trainers I didn’t like were brought out.
Years down the line, I’ve never had an issue with any of the trainers I’ve bought. It’s probably a lot to do with the sales rep too.
