Hey guys just a quickie, I’m gonna have another go at an early morning run tomorrow, hopefully without alarm clock malfunctions this time πŸ˜‚

Anyway I just wondered those of you who go out before the birds start singing, Do you eat anything before you go? It’s never been an issue for me before as I’m used to running at the end of the day.

I was thinking a strong coffee and a banana maybe? πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Half a banana and a cup of tea. Good luck tomorrow. I'll be running my graduation run with youπŸ·πŸ˜πŸ‘

I'm exactly the same, right down to the time. Always been fine

I usually go out at about 6.30ish and don't have anything beforehand apart from maybe a sip of water. Good luck tomorrow!

I have often gone after just a cup of tea or glass of water if I go out very early .

Or I have had breakfast, (poridge with prunes) and gone out 1 and a half hours later ,πŸ™‚

Never managed an early morning run yet but when I was swimming first thing I used to have a coffee and half a banana. I had the other half post swim on the way to the station or whilst waiting for my train.

Eventually I stopped the banana as I found occasionally I got indigestion whilst swimming.

I couldn't go without the coffee though

Yes I noticed this one seems to crop up a fair bit while I was googling earlier πŸ™‚

I used to have half a banana and a pint of very dilute apple juice before a 5k and a whole banana (last of the big spenders, me) before a 10k plus.

I have now dropped the banana and feel no different.

As with hydration, it is what you ingest in the previous 24 hours that matters.

Just a coffee

Hi Dtay, nothing! Just water before the run ...small fruit yoghurt and boiled egg afterwards worked for me πŸ˜‚

The best you can have is boiled eggs after a workout πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ try it and see πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

You've hit a nerve. I have a deep-seated aversion to eggs. I think it stems from a childhood of eczema and being told to avoid them (with no foundation in science I might add, but it was the 60s πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ). I can't bear even the smell of eggs, or being in the same room as my partner while he eats them.

The most wrong food in the world - a pickled egg πŸ₯šπŸ³πŸ€’ πŸ€ͺ

I take a thyroxine tablet the first thing when I get up. I'm not allowed to eat anything (or drink anything but water) for at least half an hour after that. A small glass of water (250ml) and I'm out.

Same here! Medication for thyroid with a glass of water πŸ’¦ and I’m out.

I get up at 6 on my run days. Just some water and then out the door. Still fairly new to this running lark but this seems to suit me. More than make up for it later! Banana and more water as soon as I am home

I run early morning, no food, just a glass of water and that works well. After the run more water, then toast and a coffee β˜•οΈ

I usually do 500 - 750ml of water while waking up and no food until lunch. I'd rarely have a coffee (the weak flat white) before I run, in case if I don't have that time to sip my water while waking up.

I’m often out between 5.30 and 6am. Usually just grab a glass of water before leaving the house. Occasionally I’ll have a banana as well, but I’ve found that I need 20 minutes after eating it before running or it threatens to return.

Maybe too late, I'm just back and go out on about 1/2 small glass of apple juice. The sugar gives me a little energy.

Good luck!

I have a normal breakfast BUT just a little of what I normally eat, I ran that 10 miles the other day starting 45 minutes after finishing a very light breakfast.

I only ever run early, starting between 5-6:00. I would usually just have water and I now run 5-6 miles.

If I am perhaps doing 6 miles plus then I might have a banana or a cereal bar, but I have never found not eating an issue.

Is there such a time as before the bird start singing? On a serious note I have completed 2 of those runs and whilst they say exercise sets you up for the day, it set me up to be tired ALL day. Anyways, I had a couple of cereal bars and a small drink and then went out straight after. Good luck with it as I am most definitely a PM kind of runner.

I run at 5.15am .... I have a glass of water before I go out but no food and in return eat say a banana before having breakfast a bit later

Half to full pint of water for me over 20min then off I go. Breakfast when I get home. I’ve never run an evening as opposite end of the scale, I wonder how people manage it having eaten in the day!

I'm an early riser and I've tried both just water and also adding a banana or cereal bar .... seem to get along better without food tbh..

Stitches seem to be more of issue when eaten.

Good luck with your early run

Hi, I like an early run but never been good with early breakfast. Normally have half a banana, a teaspoon of honey, and a glass of water πŸ˜‰

I knock up smoothies & freeze them, pull one out the day before a run day to defrost, guzzle that whilst lacing up.

I’m out 0500/0530 & out the door 15 mins after getting up, amazing time of the day to be out.

Well I woke at half 7, which was a little later than planned and ate a banana and drank a strong coffee and chewed a couple of glucose tablets. Think I flew round with all that energy πŸ˜‚

I normally have a small banana and a drink about 30 mins before I go out. Early mornings are the best time for running, clean air and it sets you up for the day πŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ
