Morning running

I’m about to restart couch to 5k after previously getting to week 8 last year then I had a back injury, tried again this year and had another illness but all good now.

Anyhow, I’ve only ever used the treadmill and this time I’m going to do it by pounding the streets, my plan is to start tomorrow morning about 7, it’s quiet and my snail pace will not be witnessed by many, however somebody just warned me that running first thing in the morning after you’ve just got up is not good for you, I don’t want to ‘google’ it as I’d prefer to ask you guys for advice on this, my wife didn’t help by telling me Rik Mayall died after an early morning run, probably all rubbish but has me slightly spooked.

Any views ?

Not heard that before, I literally get out of bed, go to the loo and get out the door. It's my only window. I have heard different schools of thought on effect on weight loss of am/pm work out.

I have gone out in the evenings but for me that is harder, I've done a days work and going out is more of a push, plus its hotter and more people are about.

Not scientific but for me, getting up and getting the blood pumping is a great start to the day.

The same. I find first thing in the morning runs are easier than lunchtime or afternoon ones.

Up, loo, dress, a glass of water, and out. Then have a cool shower when I get back.

At this time of the year, mornings are cooler than evenings, which might also be a factor.

I’ve not heard that. I been out at 6.30am all through the programme. Works for me as I’m showered and ready for the commute down the stairs to my study to start work at 8am.

Be interesting to see other replies on this subject though.

Well done for re-starting after the set-backs previously.

Ditto to all the replies. I can only run early morning on an empty stomach! No one around and it’s cooler. After a days work the last thing I feel like is running. Works for me and my headspace! Good luck!

Thanks all for the replies, I’ll certainly read that link too 👍, I’ve set my alarm for 6, may try to start at week 3 run1 as I’ve still got some fitness but not done much other than walking during lockdown 😀👍
