Life has been getting in the way a lot lately. My last run was Monday (which went really well) but like last week, work stress took over and I didn't run again all week. Today I had zero intention of running - I knew I wasn't in the right place. A combination of Friday night drinks, dehydration and a mostly-croissant breakfast is not really the best prep for a successful run. But by lunchtime I was bored and felt annoyed at losing my rhythm. I sat around for a long while toying with the idea. And then I decided to go anyway, and treat it as a practice. So here are the lessons I learned;
1) You know when you know. I knew, and I was right, it wasn't a great success. This was technically W6R3 (25 mins) and although I sort of mostly ran for the best part of 20 of those minutes, I did take a few very small walk breaks.
2) But I still went for a run. And treating it like a practice run from the outset took a lot of the pressure off, and I feel absolutely great about going and couldn't care less that I didn't complete it!
3) Downing two pints of water immediately before a run won't be the magic dehydration cure you hope it'll be, it will just give you a stitch later.
4) Croissants aren't good running fuel
5) Running in the rain is alright!
6) Any run is better than no run.
So I continue on my sllllloooowww journey through this programme but I'm still going and that's the main thing! I have good intentions of getting back to 3 runs this week so let's see... 🤞🏼

Ha this is so me! Agree with all that ! That has been me this morning . But the fact that I at least did some running today made me mentally feel fab. Good luck!
Some days are just not going to be good run days for all sorts of reasons - some of which we can and can’t control. Going out and running on a day like today is the sort of thing that makes you a runner. Your legs are more prepared for that 25 minute run now than if you had stayed on the couch today. Accept every run as an achievement and you can’t go wrong 😊.
Agree with your findings! And it doesn’t matter how slow your journey is 😀 you will get to the destination in your own time! You’ve got this! 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
OMG this is exactly what I needed to read right now!
I’m sat on a park bench wondering if I should go get changed and go for a run. I didn’t drink much yesterday and have only had a pint of juice today so far so hydration is a concern.
I know not to drink 2 pints before I go out now lol. Don’t think I would make it with that jiggling around in me and public toilets are still closed 🤣
I haven’t had croissant for breakfast, didn’t do breakfast, but did have a prawn sandwich a couple of hours ago, but hopefully that will have settled.
I’m supposed to be running for 25 mins but I guess I’ll see.
A practice run is better than no run 🤣
Thank you for the inspiration 😊
Off home for a pint (of water, or maybe half) and to maybe get changed, or sit on the couch for a bit longer 🙈
Haha!! Glad this helped someone 😅 I say give it a go, even if it ends up being a 5 min warm up followed by a 5 min warm down 😂Who's counting? And you might surprise yourself! (I didn't, but you might...)
