Help and advice for a newbie

Eveleighphotography profile image

Hi. This is my first post. Im 57 and currently weigh 16 stone. Ive changed diet moving to a vegetarian one and eat 2 meals a day. I dont smoke. I've been doing intermittent running the last few weeks - 2 minutes running and 2 minutes walking. I live in quite a hilly region so can't avoid uphill. Im doing this for 15 minutes. Despite doing this for 2 weeks I find this is enough. Each run I find im going a little bit further. Im getting a bit disheartened that I feel I cant do anymore than the current 15 minutes. Oh I also do a 15 minute walk after the run. Any advice appreciated.

What you're doing is great but it's not progressing. I know you're already doing 2 min intervals but I would really recommend downloading the programme and doing it from the start.

I started doing my own thing because I was pretty fit to start with however I soon realised (and got told off by my massage therapist) that I needed to build specific muscles gradually so I did as I was told (and I'm not good at that)

The 9 week programme progresses you gradually, building the necessary muscles and more importantly, stamina. Learning to do as we're told is also good for really looking after our body.

You've taken some fantastic steps to look after yourself and create a better, healthier future you.

Have a look at the guide to the programme. Even if you decide it's not for you there is loads of helpful advice in it

Good luck regardless 👍🏻😁

Please, whatever else you do today download this programme. It’s a fantastic medium for improving just about everything about yourself. Take it as slowly as you want not just the running but also each week, taking as many rest days as you feel you need. (I always took 2 days in between - older person) There is no pressure on you to run every other day. Also when you do start as well as following the start and finish walk please remember to do dynamic stretches before and static stretches after, it really helps. Good luck looking forward to seeing your progress reports.

I’m not an expert, but is two meals a day enough? I’m wondering whether three meals will give you more energy when you run..? But again, I’m no expert, I just like - and need! - my three meals a day! 😂

And I agree with the others about the programme too 😊

I know what you mean but I'm trying to lose weight and intermittent fasting seems to be a good way. Happy to take any advice though! Thank you
