I started on Friday. managed just two runs! Had to stop as totally exhausted and breathless. Today after advice re Japanese slow jogging (thank you!) did four! From someone who's never run in her life very pleased. Had decided if I do nothing else, even a bit of walking and two runs is something.. Still stopped with 14 mins to go but it's a start!! My run was very very very slow!

Doesn’t matter if you didn’t complete it as you can do the same run as many times as you need to. The point is your trying and that’s all that matters. Determination and perseverance 💪🏻👍🏻.

You can do this as I said we’re all routing for you. Post and you will see the support that people give on here, it’s great

You can never be too slow!

For many people the walks are faster than the runs. I was one of them.

In fact forget the word run - think slow jog.

Watch this:-

This plan is all about gradually building your stamina and endurance. Speed and distance can come much later.

If you need support, advice this forum is the place to be

Trust me you are capable of much more than you imagine

I was similar to you I’d never been able to run, I’m overweight, over 50. When I started the first runs I kept checking the app to make sure it hadn’t stopped every minute felt like so much longer. Every week that went by worried me how am I going to run for longer. Tomorrow I’m due to start week 9 run 1. Believe in yourself, trust the programme it really does get easier

As you said, it's a start. Everybody would do it if it was simple.

Congratulations and keep going. Have a lovely week.

Well done on persevering. It’s so easy to get discouraged if you have a bad run - or as we say, a practice run!! 😆 This run was better than the last so that my friend is progress. 👍🏻🏃🏼‍♀️

You have done something absolutely amazing - you are starting to run! We all have different starting points and you might just need to spend a bit longer on those first runs until you can complete them. If you have the determination then you will get there in the end - probably 90% of us on here belong to Team 🐌 🐌 🐌 so welcome aboard! We are lovely cheering snails as well so keep posting your runs so we can cheer you on!!!

Namm, every time I pull on my running gear and then lace up my trainers I ask myself why I’m doing it. I suspect you might think the same right now. But all of us are off the couch, and every step makes us healthier and we are all here to clap and cheer your progress. We are all in this together,

I actually like it! Going nuts at home sometimes.. a friend suggested going for a walk.. didn't like it but like having Jo Whiley talking to me!

Well done and keep going, our first few runs were horrendous but we dug in and slowed down even more and suddenly found we could run and run

Good luck

thanks so much.. that's really encouraging! :-)

I'm glad I've found your post. I too am struggling with week one and keep giving up as feel like a failure. I had it in my head that I will be pounding the pavements like seasoned runners after the nine weeks. So unrealistic especially having not exercised for nearly 20 years and weigh 130kg. But I've started and and will keep at it until I can complete a session. And keep logging in for support.
