Achilles Pain

Hi All,

I completed C25K a couple of weeks ago and had 4 really good consolidation runs feeling quite strong.

On Sunday I had a bad day, just didn't feel right, it was raining etc and I had a bit of a pain in my left calf, so walked for a bit and finished the run.

Today I went out and felt my left calf again, which built up until it got worse and started in my right calf after about 2km. So I had a bit of a walk but it didn't get better. Ive given it a rub with voltarol and with a roller but it is still pretty tight and im limping quite heavily. Both sides are sore but mainly my right.

I had issues in week 3 with sore calf muscles and just rested or a few days, slowed down and used a roller, which seemed to do the trick.

Any advice or thoughts on what to do? Plan is to do very little for a couple of days and have a bit of a walk on Thursday/Friday and see how it is. Hopefully it will be ok to run again by Sunday.

Stretching immediately after every run, nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/h... while muscles are still warm and supple, pulls out contractions, avoiding carrying tensions into the next run and also improves recovery by improving blood flow, as recommended in the guide to the plan.

Many people do not hold their stretches for long enough or put enough effort in. Hold post run stretches for 30 seconds and make sure the pull is strong enough to be on the verge of discomfort.

Eccentric heel drops can work wonders for Achilles.

Take care.

Thanks,

I'll give it a few days and try the drops/stretches.
